Those are pretty standard in cryptography, the equivalent would be "foo" and "bar".
You are absolutely right. In matters of love and attraction fortune always favors the bold.
I love Taleb, I've been following his advice for a few years now and have found that absolutely nothing in my life has changed except having a lot more free time and a lot less stress.
The consumers can and do. We collectively decided that a .99 cents for a song or $15 for a physical album isn't worth it. Equilibrium will eventually happen, the smart artists are already making money in the new music industry.
The recent HN post about xx comes to mind.

Seems like these "missing foundations" can easily be remedied by reading a couple of algorithm books.
I think it's still on sale.
The site was cool but I found it funny how every person on the most wanted list was hispanic or black. But at least only one was because of drugs, the others committed legitimate crimes.
Very cool! Thanks for the info, that was exactly the type of advice I was looking for. I've only used postgres as a backend for metasploit so my background is limited. I'll definitely do some research and learn more about databases.

I'm 23, and received my degree in finance this May. While trading forex I came across something called a Java API, started the online Stanford Java course, and from that point is was over, I fell love with programming.I have been coding for a little less than a year, going through a few Python books and coding every exercise, but it didn't really “click” till about 4 or 5 months ago. Since then...
I think that number is very reasonable. Zerohedge.com is very libertarian and they also use the 23% number provided by shadowstats.
Texas is hardly small government.
I would call them more right-wing conservatives (neo-cons really).
Please give me some links.
Here is a nice debate with Bruce Schneier.
"In the entire decade or so of airport security since the attacks on September 11th 2001, the TSA has not foiled a single terrorist plot or caught a single terrorist. Its own “Top 10 Good Catches of 2011″ does not have a single terrorist on the list."

And yet no terrorist attacks have occurred.
So either people got more violent after 9/11 and therefore brought more weapons, or people were always bringing guns onto planes. I’d bet on the latter, and yet how many terror attacks occurred? Hmmm…
I think there is a clear distinction between failing and lying then being exposed.
Join a start up and it fails horribly? Turn around and join a big corp, no cares if you didn't make a dime during that time.
Lying blatantly about everything to everyone until they find out is not in the same league as checking 4chan during work. Which is hardly a fireable offense imo.
I recommend Calculus Made Easy by Thompson. This book is short but complete. I read it at 22.
I gave up on mathematics after my first college course but found that for everything I wanted to get into, Machine Learning & Bayesian stats, it was essential . A year later I know math better than ever before even though I haven't stepped inside a classroom in years.
You're probably getting bored because most math books are hundreds of pages long and in addition to the material they include mathematicians bio's, several solution methods, and the explanations of edge cases.
Your first line still rings true to me, it also reminds me of a quote.
“If you go home with somebody, and they don't have books, don't fuck 'em!” ― John Waters
Though I remember reading a much more eloquent version of that quote somewhere this is all google brought up.
Makes me wonder if this guy has ever had a real, long term relationship.
To each his own, sex just seems like a fun activity you do with someone that you really like and have feelings for.
I would definitely get the money back, that's just me though.
When you have a project to complete in a time crunch and feel comfortable doing it in that language.
Well yes, the last three in your list are terrible exactly because they harm others. That is what I said.
Weapons are like drugs, they don't necessarily hurt anyone unless you plan to invade my home or threaten me. Assassination implies that the sole goal is killing a target, buying a gun can be for protection, for a collection, for fun and hobby, for sustenance, ect.
Why would that be any different from a weapons market?
If either existed (in brick and motor or amazon style stores) I would frequent both regularly.
Have you graduated from a university?
How would a young programmer get into this field?
Are PhD's a prerequisite?
1) Congress passed a law after a lot of lobbying. The reasoning was that when a student graduates they have substantial debt and no assets, so every student would just declare bankruptcy the day after graduating and wouldn't have to pay back the providers.
I hate Rand but that was an ad hominem attack and not much else.
But more importantly;
"Entrepreneurs(with a big E) get subsidized security, roads, mail, water, food, electricity, education, health care, etc."
I'm pretty sure it's the other way around. The taxes levied on businesses and individuals pay for the (often shoddy and wasteful) infrastructure and services.
