Very interesting, now I really wonder about Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese. There is so much written literature in Spanish that I would guess that much of it has been used to train models. For Chinese is a similar case but it has the interesting side effect to be a very different language than English. (English has germanic roots, but most of its words are latin based so not so far away from Spanish).

1. based on or in accordance with reason or logic

And rationality is defined as the opposite of whatever is doing things "on vibes" is. You said it yourself, you are going with the vibes on your investment instead of reasoning and logic. And with so little information as there is about Anthropic's IPO reasoning and logic to invest are hard to come by.

Re:The future in old computer magazines (1984–2004) on Monday November 02, 2026 @07:42AM (#50336066)
The future used to be awesome because it was though by average people, scientists, writers, etc. even advertisers were catering for consumers and their hopes and dreams.

Once the future is being designed by CEOs of corporations the value-extracting machine creates the worst of possible futures.

We need to redistribute wealth back to the working class and let us decide a better future. With the current concentration of money and power in a few hands our only future is to repeat the middle ages.

> An inevitable outcome of capitalism

That is why there were laws against monopolies. But some far-right activists proposed the idea of "if it is a monopoly is because is so good that people wants it". And they run with it. It makes no sense as all these monopolies are created by buying competitors not by being better. But as it helps the new aristocracy to accumulate power many sellouts are in favor of it.

This is exactly what made the feudal system so unhealthy and hostile towards innovation. Wealth concentration means power concentration that makes a few people so powerful that new and different ideas are violently attack from positions of power. Kings do not want better farming or better fabrics if it means that they lose the control over it. Kings value control over anything else, and we are entering a new era of kings, concentrated wealth and stagnation. We can change that, break all monopolies, redistribute power and let a dynamic healthy diverse economy rise again and bring its fruits to society.

If this were a mechanism that appeared under some kind of evolutionary pressure. What would that be? In which situations a normal mammal find its bones squished (but not crushed)? Or is it just a side effect of something else going on?
> chasing after pleasure

Pleasure is cheap, even addictive. Fulfillment and meaningful work are extremely difficult to come by. Everything is monetized, every interaction, every experience... money makes experiences transactional, they lose their meaing.

To have a fulfilling live people needs to participate in society, have opportunities, education, basic needs covered... and that is our failure. A kid can get 24/7 entertainment while lacking food or good education.

That sounds interesting. How is that different from a bank? What are the advantages and disadvantages compared with a traditional bank?
Re:Capital Wants a Monopoly on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:23PM (#50291597)
It is called feudalism. You have lords owning the land and everybody else needs to rent it. That is what capital is afterwards. You will own nothing, fight.

LLMs are not judged, the company employees and leadership are. Nobody puts in prison a car for running over a pedestrian either.
Re:Richest 0.1% (8M) produce more carbon pollution than 3.5B on Thursday October 29, 2026 @01:37AM (#50284937)
Thank you. Exactly that. Prices do not adapt to the scale that super-rich manage.

And it seems that it touched some sensible point as the comment is at -3 right now.

That does not change that billionaires are incompatible with capitalism. They have too much power, so instead of reducing costs, increasing production or providing better services they just play to be god with our resources. And they monopolize the economy, stop competition, and kill capitalism. And I think that capitalism is not that good and needs a lot of help from the government to function, but it was better than authoritarian waste.

If ... then ... otherwise ...

Fixed!

Re:Richest 0.1% (8M) produce more carbon pollution than 3.5B on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @11:45PM (#50284334)
Inequality breaks capitalism. Spending so much money as the 0.1% spends in luxury makes no sense. To let millions die of preventable diseases, or even hunger makes no sense. The fact that as a society we let them do that is a failure that needs to be corrected.

It is not their money. It is our resources that they are wasting. We need to better provide for our fellow humans even if that costs the rich a percentage of their luxuries.

And let's not forget about the top 0.01%. The smaller the percentage, the more depraved the rich are, and the more they use their money to influence politics and increase poverty and suffering.

Trump has been manipulating the media, attacking the electoral process, lying, using federal resources to persecute political rivals... "all sides" seems unfair.

Oh, I get it now.

Re:Hunger beats tenure: Advice for junior engineers on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @05:53AM (#50271151)
That's a great argument to continue consuming drugs. It is not just what you get, you also need to take a look at what you miss.

Been satisfied with what you have is a good thing. But should not stop you of seeking better things.

And this is the reason why we need datacenters in space.
When a country main form of getting rich is thru rent (land, platforms, or any other). That country becomes economically sick. The middle ages were dominated by land Lords. War to increase land ownership, no social mobility, and economic stagnation were the norm.

Platform rents are really bad. And for land rents, it would make more sense to be a public good that finances the government that privately owned and creating a owner class that gets all the profits from society production.

> Literally, elite rent-seekers took all the money and now there is no more to take!

There is more money to take, that is why they push for conservative governments that reduce taxes for the rich and eliminate laws that protect the working-class.

Creating new things should be incentivized over platforms that take a cut on the work of others.

Re:Nvidia and Micron Make Up 34% of America's Earnings Boom on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:12AM (#50269576)
> why subscription mania took hold over the last decade,

I don't see business to business subscriptions as a bad thing. It it a way of sharing risks. The horrifying thing is that they do that to consumers.

Consumers don't have the legal teams to analize such contracts. Consumers do not have people dedicated to evaluate prices and change providers (Even for companies is costly, so individuals get stuck in products they do not use anymore). Subscriptions change prices and conditions at will, what makes it impossible for a normal consumer to follow up on everything that changes over time.

The fact that even when you theoretically buy, like a phone or even a TV, also becomes a subscription because the software it runs needs updates.

Subscription models that may make sense for corporations are killing the working class ability to own things or even choose which business they want to buy from. It is just about capturing customers and not letting them leave as prices are pushed up.

Re:UK to charge universities $1,200 per international student on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @06:49AM (#50257161)
> priotise sources of income over educating british nationals

Education has always been an investment. Tax puts money in education, the country gains in reduced poverty, increased safety, better mental health, etc.

To think about education as a way to earn money was absurd from the beginning. But when billionaires run a country is what you get. Margaret Thatcher started a trend to lie to the public and brainwash them on thinking that public investment is waste. The country is harvesting the lies that she planted. And children and teenagers will get the worse part of it. Sadly, many people still believe in the lies of conservatives and change is difficult when so many people has magical thinking (stop investing, cut taxes, and somehow money will rain from the sky).

> The truth of the matter I think is that you do not actually need the best.

That is true for monopolies. Once you get a monopoly, you do not need to compete anymore. Lower the salaries. Make products worse. Increase prices. Monopolies do not need to care. We used to break them because that. Nowadays, bots just will tell you that they are monopolies because they are "so good". So, here we are.

> I think same is true for all Big Tech companies. Too many employees doing not enough or quality work.

A lot of people has this feeling because the work at a big corporation is different than in starting technologies.

When you start a new technology everything is new, and a lot of stuff is added at the edge.

When you work for stablished company most of the work is refinements, following new rules or regulations, incorporating products from merges, maintaining technology up to date with new releases... nothing feels important and nothing feels challenging. At the same time, your company fails if it is not done. Quality is also incredible important, to break a tiny component may send thousands of companies around the world spinning.

Maybe you should work for a startup instead of a stablished company. You can move fast and break things when you have no customers, or just very few of them.

Short-term is the only thing that matters for billionaires. If they cared for the future they will not do the things that they do.

Also, if you help a dictator-wanna-be to take power you may get a election short-term but a country long-term. Billionaires are not very friendly towards democracy or the working class.

Capitalism cannot solve this problem. If I can get free support for my business why shouldn't I?

There was a time that reputation damage could counter valance that. But, nowadays, what the average working calls thinks does not matter because money is not on their side. Most money is in the super-rich pockets, and they are the ones that profit from abusing society. Until that is solved, I see a painful future for any people willing to give their own time for free.

I see a future where AI is banned to avoid that situation. If AI creates too much work and ends reducing advanced countries output then something will need to be done.

Individually, AI helps me to be more productive. But, as you point out, at society level makes everybody less productive. So, I have no incentive to stop. Nobody has. Only if we all agree to stop using it then it works. A tragedy of the commons problem.
