Damn. You just described my whole life.
In Firefox about:config switching network.IDN_show_punycode to true could HELP spotting these kind of scams. But I believe that, in the end, once it's showing in Google results, it's game over.

Ads in search result are looking close enough to regular search result for people to just trust it and click.

Great read, thank you!
Re:The bottom is dropping out of Netflix on Friday April 22, 2022 @06:33PM (#31129049)
I also find the 4k catalog very... lacking. (In Canada at least). Movies outside of Netflix originals are just not available in 4k.
Re:Steam survey shows Linux marketshare hitting 1.0% on Monday August 02, 2021 @01:27PM (#28039741)
The Windows 11 announcement is what made me transition to Ubuntu in the last few weeks. So far, I made the transition on 4 out of 5 of my windows PC.

It's far from smooth enough to become mainstream (with ubuntu at least.)

A few example: Steam wouldn't launch on my PC with an Nvidia card. (At to install some x86 package to make it work).

File sharing just didn't work at all without manually edit the smb.conf file.

Ubuntu randomly ignore my router DNS settings. All my self-hosted stuff requiring local DNS randomly stops working unless I force ubuntu to use my own DNS server.

Some games just don't work on any of my PCs (even if they are gold/platinum in protondb).

And many more stuff that works out of the box with windows. Overall, despite the issues, the experience is still positive and i'm not going back.

Re:The 'Fuck You' Pattern on Monday June 28, 2021 @04:31PM (#27667632)
Fuck you patterns are everywhere on the web nowaday.

Some of the most annoying to me:

Twitch trying to discourage the use of the embedded player/non official players (like VLC) by replacing the content by a fullscreen purple picture asking you to watch on twitch.tv.

Reddit trying to force mobile user to use the reddit app as soon as the content is marked NSFW.

Instagram forcing me to login to view pictures.

Twitter asking me to see who someone is following.

Thank you! I use an extension on Firefox for Windows but I had no solution for Android. I'll try this!
Re:Statement of SEC Regarding Recent Market Volatility on Friday January 29, 2021 @11:21AM (#25958939)
I get the point. They way it's delivered is just so passive agressive.
That's really cool. Is there a way to keep windows standard window buttons (restore / minimize and close)?

I love this feature. I wish it worked with Mixer. At least it work on Twitch!

In Materialistic you can hit the red round button that appears bottom right of the screen. That way you can zoom. It won't help you much with this article, but it can be handy sometimes.
Re:Pi-Hole 4.3.2 on Tuesday September 24, 2019 @10:31AM (#21060561)
It doesn't work for me at least. I still see a ton of ads on the youtube app on all of my Roku devices. I heard that it works for some people so maybe i'm hitting domains that aren't in the blocklists due to my location?
Pretty much anything is dangerous for a new born. I have to admit that I'd be much more scared from the flu on a new born than a cold.

It's working for me.

The article is getting edited live. It was not in the article when it was first posted by OP but thank you for pointing that out!

There is an ongoing criminal investigation as far as I know.

Maybe they laughed because it kinda look like a cheese grater.

Edit: My bad. Actually, it's the new mac pro that look like a cheese grater.

I use OneTab[1] for Firefox for this. Bookmarks do have the advantage of being integrated to sync though.

This is the source cited in the article here https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=19229502

I think the article is interesting enough to have it's own discussion.

Re:Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB Review on Friday February 22, 2019 @08:07PM (#19230853)
Is the hardware encoder the same in every Turing based card or should we expect different performance when comparing ultra high end to mid range? (2080TI vs 1660TI)
Re:VirtualBox 6.0 released on Thursday December 20, 2018 @10:17AM (#18725555)
Same experience here with a MBP 15'' 2015 with 16gb of ram
Re:Firefox 64 Released on Tuesday December 11, 2018 @03:05PM (#18658408)
I does feel faster. I still can't watch a 1080p60 twitch stream without droping a ton of frames though.

It's been like this for at least 2 years now on my MBP 2015.

Re:AV1 Release on Wednesday March 28, 2018 @11:38AM (#16698542)
I can only hope that AV1 is gonna get some traction. It's hard to believe since MPEG-4 and HEVC are already everywhere.

I know that the AOMedia foundation was created in response to MPEG-4 HEVC licensing... Having an alternative might help getting rid of the HEVC!

Re:Firefox 59 released on Tuesday March 13, 2018 @11:54AM (#16577140)
You are not alone. Firefox is unusable for me on my mac book pro 15' 2015. HTML 5 videos are basically a slideshow.

On my PC with windows 10, Firefox eat 25% to 30% of my CPU looking at a twitch stream (1080p60). Chrome and Edge will use about 5% while looking at the same stream.
