Re:Learn Programming with OCaml on Saturday September 05, 2026 @06:04PM (#49581157)
OCaml programmers, what learning resource would you recommend starting out with? I know there's https://cs3110.github.io/textbook/chapters/basics/intro.html. How does this book compare? Anything else you would recommend?

You mean generate unmaintainable JavaScript for us.

Oh, that's cool. And that's exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. So thanks a lot!
Re:Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @11:19PM (#49459217)
This is the world we live in now. 3-4 megacorps owning everything in every major product category - eyewear, cosmetic, consumer goods, media, tech; you name it.
Re:AWS Acquires DuckDB on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @05:03PM (#49455880)
Thanks, I gathered that much. I am curious what kind of stuff people are using it for, especially in their personal projects.
Re:AWS Acquires DuckDB on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @01:43PM (#49453011)
People using DuckDB, what's your use case? I use sqlite for a lot of my personal projects. What's a good use case for using DuckDB?
Re:Go 1.27 on Thursday August 20, 2026 @03:19PM (#49378929)
I don't think it's childish to dislike verbosity in a language. Readability is important. There is a reason why there are so many programming languages that compile to Go: https://github.com/ubavic/compiles-to-go
Re:Go 1.27 on Thursday August 20, 2026 @12:29PM (#49376861)
It's the ugly as hell part that gets me.
Re:Go 1.27 on Thursday August 20, 2026 @12:28PM (#49376849)
I don't have a problem with the error handling per say, but it's the verbosity, yes.
Re:Go 1.27 on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @07:58PM (#49368780)
I really want to like Go, but I can't stand looking at Go code. The error handling is such a turn off.
Re:Qwen3.8-27B on Friday August 14, 2026 @02:20PM (#49302637)
It's better for VRAM poor people. I get 4-5 t/s with 27B and 20-30 t/s with 35B A3B.

Re:Sonic Pi v5 Released on Monday August 10, 2026 @01:20PM (#49246780)
Congrats on the release Sam! Looking forward to checking it out. What's your favorite new feature?
Re:Sonic Pi v5 Released on Monday August 10, 2026 @01:19PM (#49246767)
For starters, strudel runs in the browser while Sonic Pi is a stand alone application.
Re:Herdr is joining Y Combinator. The runtime stays open on Thursday August 06, 2026 @05:53PM (#49203127)
> Here's hoping this one's different...

It won't be.

Congrats on the new release. Anything that creates more competition in the browser space has my support. I was hyped about Ladybird but their recent adoption of LLMs and going source-available only has put a bit of a dent in it.
It used to be the case that seeing cool Show HN projects would get me excited. Ever since the advent of agentic coding, that has been completely lost for me. 9/10 times now they are just claude produced slop with a 3 day long commit history. Quite sad.
Re:How Our Rust-to-Zig Rewrite Is Going on Thursday July 16, 2026 @03:42PM (#48939283)
Roc seems interesting. But for some reason I find it very grating to have the type definition on a separate line. Very much prefer F# syntax for that.
Re:UK set to announce social media ban for under-16s on Sunday June 14, 2026 @11:14AM (#48528041)
Somehow all the countries are suddenly proposing the same thing. You'd think at least one of these countries might try something different if they actually cared about the kids, like banning algorithmic feeds. Not suspicious at all.
Re:UK set to announce social media ban for under-16s on Sunday June 14, 2026 @11:10AM (#48527979)
Arguing about whether this is good or effective for kids or not is irrelevant. This isn't about kids at all. It's about surveillance.
Re:Removing the modem and GPS from my 2024 RAV4 hybrid on Thursday May 14, 2026 @05:11PM (#48141313)
We need a Framework laptop equivalent for cars.
Re:Online age verification is the hill to die on on Thursday April 30, 2026 @05:01AM (#47959949)
This points get brought up in every thread about this topic, and although I agree with it completely, I feel it's the wrong point to make. They don't want to raise our children. Caring about the children is just pretense. The goal is surveillance. So this is a moot point, really.
