Re:Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen on Monday November 02, 2026 @02:36PM (#50342422)
My guess: There is a ton of data online of just plain weights laying around. No human would ever actually read it. LLM's read it all during training.

Exactly. Instant is still unlimited but I like turning it on high for everything

Tell HN: ChatGPT and Codex usage will be combined

Text of Email:-------Hello,In the coming weeks, you’ll be able to delegate work directly to ChatGPT — from building sites and presentations to taking action on the web — without switching to the Work tab.Tell ChatGPT what you want to accomplish. It can decide when to use these capabilities, break complex tasks into smaller steps, and work through them for you.A shared allowance for ChatGPT and...

Re:Official Claude Code extension compromise on Friday October 30, 2026 @02:49PM (#50308460)
This has nothing to do with anthropic. One (or two) distribution channels were hacked. The hackers decided to distribute their malware through the claude extension, probably because it's popular.

This was good wholesome fun! Some foundation should do this for future cve's
Re:Proton Flock Camera Map on Sunday October 25, 2026 @10:41PM (#50238451)
Wow, they're everywhere. I did not realize the extent of it
I just last night noticed the same with codex
The reason being that they're not part of the government?

Feynman's license plate
Of course there is a cost to everyone and the cost is dirtier air. Articles like this don't mention or strongly deemphasize the fact that everything is a tradeoff and a recession or stagnation of growth has horrific consequences as well. No one sees the jobs and welfare that could have been created if environmental regulations were less onerous.
Alternative headline:

Decades of progress on air quality could erase jobs

Yes, you missed the middle of the video.
Does Russia have mandatory *Universal* conscription? I didn't think they did. Maybe recently?
Re:GPT-6 Sol and Luna on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @03:15PM (#49806646)
You have to accept that people are different than you.

I see long massive pro apple threads. I don't get it at all. As in; literally don't understand what Apple is good for. But I have friends, family irl who love apple so I know the sentiment exists. I therefore accept that many HN users are similar.

Many people really truly are happy to see another model drop and are excited about progress etc etc. Surely you've met such ppl in real life. Well, they're here too (I'm one of them fwiw)

Re:GPT-6 Sol and Luna on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @02:26PM (#49805916)
Oh, I'm happy I'm not the only one. Astra was feasting on tokens!
Re:Claude Opus 5.5 on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @01:36PM (#49805121)
Well, they're actually older so it makes sense that their model versions should be ahead
Re:Claude Opus 5.5 on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @01:26PM (#49804925)
It has read the internet. That doesn't mean it was literally RL'ed for this

What is the purpose of an army?
Re:OpenJev on Friday September 18, 2026 @12:31PM (#49756760)
Yeah, it outputs probabilities over the options you give it. It's basically a generalizable classifier.
Re:Fable 5.1 Solves the Cyphral Distich, a 370-year-old cipher on Sunday September 13, 2026 @09:34PM (#49690750)
Theoretically, with a long enough codeword to cipher ratio, vigenere is impossible to break (I think) (but sort of useless)

And yes, I've taught 8 year olds how to crack Caesar ciphers...

Re:Fable 5.1 Solves the Cyphral Distich, a 370-year-old cipher on Sunday September 13, 2026 @09:33PM (#49690743)
It's good at poking holes at my galaxy brained newfangled ideas for ciphers too. I thought I had something good, pasted the ciphertext and got a "it was embarrassingly simple..."
Re:So you want to use OpenRouter? on Friday September 11, 2026 @04:51PM (#49665182)
It's not always deceptive. Bugs in inference can be very subtle (well, bugs everywhere can be subtle).

The providers should be benchmarking their offerings daily

Re:A misalignment of AI in mathematics on Friday September 11, 2026 @02:57PM (#49663501)
The cheapest kind of journalism. Acme corp does x, Scroll twitter, find malcontents, write an article "People are upset about x".

I'm outraged at mathematicians. There, write the article.

Huh, call of the void is common and it has a name!

Great site

Re:Stockfish 19 on Thursday September 10, 2026 @02:48PM (#49648529)
Way way shallower search. A human doesn't consider more than a few candidate moves. But they (we?) build up much better intuitions and heuristics
Distilling you don't have the actual model weights of the teacher. All you have are the teachers answers to a lot of questions. You then teach your own smaller model to answer more similarly to the big teacher model.

Fine tuning you have the actual model weights of the original model, you then train that model to answer in a different (or better) way.

Re:Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board on Friday September 04, 2026 @05:49PM (#49570647)
When I studied cybersecurity I always had this nagging feeling "But I can never get past something real" Turns out I can bypass the defenses of a trillion dollar tech company!
