Re:Tax the Childless on Friday April 04, 2014 @08:11PM (#7535289)
I do pay more taxes than those with children. I take the extra cash amassed that I'm not spending on a family and I invest it or I spend it. Both add tax revenue. Across my investment properties I pay 35K in property taxes annually, then I pay income tax on income generated from rents across multiple units. I'll also pay sales taxes on those buildings when I sell them. Lastly, because I do not have any dependents, my tax bracket is set squarely in "are you mad?!?" range. I pay a lot of taxes.

Show HN: PhotoDrop - Live photo sharing with video chat

PhotoDrop is a side project I've been working on with a couple guys in the office. It's an app that allows you to connect via video and share photos with people at the same time. This is a minimum viable product with no real UI effort, but I'd love to get a bit of feedback.

Re:California DMV Loophole Allowed Jobs to Drive Sans-Plates on Wednesday October 26, 2011 @08:41PM (#3161107)
I don't really consider this a DMV loophole. It's just constantly driving a new car. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to "uncover" this loophole, it just takes a wealthy individual to be able to afford the the lease premium to do this if they are motivated enough.

I can appreciate the effort and the sentiment of this post, but it definitely reveals a "shoot from the hip" mentality at the company.
I'm pretty sure I've seen this image circulate the Digg/Reddit cycle a few months ago referring to the Millennium Falcon being found.

Show HN: Instant object recognition

About three months ago, ipplex, a technology startup I work with released a real-time Money Reader app for Blind users that has been recognized by major publications and blogs, and has a 5 star rating in the app store. You can see a quick in office demo of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvfDnGMPrkII wasn't active on HN then, but I thought the community may enjoy seeing some very early...

Re:Why Los Angeles Should Have a Startup Fund on Thursday June 09, 2011 @08:07PM (#2639247)
There is a way to get money from the government funds now for your startup. One of the companies I work with went after grants (and were awarded them) to help develop our technology.

You have to attempt to solve a problem that those offering grants care about, but I think this is an often overlooked opportunity for startups.

I won't be holding my breathe for a fund here in LA.

Posted 4 min ago but its already hacked. I guess that should have been expected when you challenge hackers like that.

Ask HN: How does a founder find office space?

As a founder or a startup, how are you finding office space that's right for your company? The options vary from free to expensive, difficult to browse, to time consuming.Common options are Craigslist, LoopNet, CoStar, a broker, referral, etc. What do founders and startups feel the best method is for them taking into account budget, special needs for the business, location requirements, etc.?

I love the airplane analogy (especially as a pilot license holder) I'll be using that one myself if you don't mind!
Yep, exactly.

I used Wordpress, and I altered a classifieds plugin to make this work. Not exactly earth shattering, but for someone who has never done this before, I feel good about it.

This prob took me a couple weeks in nights and weekend time. I probably spent as much time researching, reading, and learning (whether relevant to the site or not) as building it.

Show HN: Business/Idea guy who built something to learn how to do it

I’m a non-technical idea guy and a business guy that has been successful in my work for other startups. As someone who has been a founding employee at more than one startup, I’ve gotten to a point where I am sitting on ideas I think are brilliant and would love to build.I’ve noticed how difficult it is to find a technical co-founder, let alone convince them to come on board with an idea. That...

Re:Review my startup: MasterIncubator.com on Monday March 28, 2011 @08:01PM (#2380699)
We work so hard to bootstrap our ideas and start ups either as our main gig or on the side, we've got to have a bit of a sense of humor about it, no?

How is this for a slogan: "MasterIncubator, a better way to spend your nights and weekends."

I should note that this isn't a profit venture, but a site to help the right people connect with each other to create what they otherwise may not have been able to alone.
