"being tough on Russia" is very far from "aggressively rallying for war with Russia".
"Shadow DOM" has the wrong description, I think:
"Web Components is a suite of different technologies allowing you to create reusable custom elements — with their functionality encapsulated away from the rest of your code — and utilize them in your web apps."

I work for a small startup. The CEO and other bosses are very intransparent. There are hardly any meetings or any other communication, and that's the way it always has been - although because of work-from-home due to the pandemic, it has become even worse.
It's probably not malicious, I guess, but they are very young, inexperienced, and just not good at communication overall.I'm aware that the...

This poll only had about 400 self-selected participants. That doesn't make for reliable numbers at all.
The book by DFW sounds interesting, but all I could find is "Everything and More: A Compact History of Infinity". Is that it?
Ugly and somewhat reminiscient of the early 2000s

Worth the read, but the first pic is not for the faint of heart - just a warning.
Sometimes Hacker News feels like a really cold place. Today is one of those days - and the tone of this discussion is why I'm shuddering.
Please tell me that you at least so much as hesitated an instant before you typed "embryo hacking", please?
Watch the series "Dollhouse" for a similar topic. Bonus: It's by Joss Whedon, so you should watch it anyway! ;-)
It is called DNS in German, with the S standing for "Säure" (acid).
The world has changed significantly since the 70ies, when such a moratorium worked. I don't think that it would in today's world, where information is more free than ever.
This is not what they want to be good at, because human-to-human interaction doesn't scale.

The opposite is true.
It is very hard to fire someone in Germany, at least compared to the US. When you compare the situation in Germany with that in Italy however - yeah, then you're right.
It's reset to English every hour. I've now reset it manually.
But you're right, the user should be able to select the language on the online demo before login. I will add this to my TODOs. Thx!
One of the burdens that comes with more than 40 locales... ;-)
Already heard about Collabtive? Very easy deployment on your own webserver (or via Debian sources), FOSS:

Disclosure: I'm one of the lead devs.

As one of the core developers of a FOSS, I regularly think about how to encourage users to switch from a passive role to a more active one as a contributor.
In my opinion every user can be a contributor, be it by providing code, documentation or just some useful feedback. And then there are translations. The software I work on is a project management tool and has already been translated into ~40...
German is longer than English, but there are other languages where the difference is even more noticeable, e.g. French.
Since I'm German, this is probably at least the reason why I found it so easy to accept this construct, when I stumbled upon it in Ender's Game. It just felt natural, so my brain decided to use it in English, too. :)
Thanks for bringing back to my mind where I snatched this one up! Yep, it's Ender's Game. :)
What is the meaning of the Chinese (?) symbol?
Should be reflected in the title, if possible, neh?
Is this an older regulation or is it the result of Italy being more and more pressured by the EU to fix their household in recent years?
Is this an older regulation or is it the result of Italy being the target of more and more immigrants in recent years?
[edit: typo]
The problem results from too many people falling for this way of thinking ... and acting accordingly.
And btw, "bureaucracy" is not a bad thing per se!

I share your impression of the tone. It's probably due to the text being written by a 21-year old. At that age hardly anyone has a fixed personality, but displays kind of fluctuating character traits. At least I think that's what leads to the impression you so accurately described.
