"Linkedin+tinder prioritizing character"

This isn't super clear and left me confused.

Working on a productivity startup, https://www.60secondseveryday.com
Because every one of those large telecom players in India are absolutely awful. Trust me, I've had firsthand experience dealing with them and they make Comcast look like saints.

I think this will actually be very successful if they manage to execute it well.

Re:How the Instant Pot cooker developed a cult following on Tuesday March 07, 2017 @11:30AM (#13811692)
There was an AMA yesterday on Reddit by the founder of Camelcamelcamel. He said that the Instant Pot was tied with the Amazon Echo for having the most people tracking it. Pretty impressive.

From what I remember, those ads make up a small % of their revenue. Most of it is sponsored content, discovery channels, etc.
Re:I am an Uber survivor on Monday February 27, 2017 @03:47PM (#13747829)
If this is true, then it's horrifying. I didn't agree with the crowd and delete Uber earlier for the protest stuff, but if this is true, then bye-bye Uber.

What's your product?
I think you'd appreciate something I've been working on and I'd love to hear what you think!

It's basically the fastest way of daily journaling - you get a call each night and record a 60 second journal entry.

I could see this getting really annoying really fast.

I can't give you an exact number because the audio/transcripts for users are completely hidden from human eyes/ears.

Based on my own personal experience however, I would say I've gotten around 85% accuracy.

How did you market this to get that many visitors?

How are users finding you?
Re:Ask HN: Do you keep a personal journal? on Thursday January 26, 2017 @12:55PM (#13493535)
Why would it being transcribed and searchable mean it's not private? Everything is automated and encrypted along the way, so I won't be able to look at it even if I wanted to.

I realize that privacy is an important concern which is why I've taken it extremely seriously. So rest assured, this journal is private.

Re:Ask HN: Do you keep a personal journal? on Thursday January 26, 2017 @11:40AM (#13492805)
I tried keeping a journal (to track what I did each day...otherwise it felt like the days were just blending together) but kept failing over and over because I just couldn't get into the habit.

For people who have the same issue, I came up with https://www.60secondseveryday.com

It's the fastest way of daily journaling - you make a 60 second phone call every night to answer the question "What do you want to remember about today?". From there, it gets transcribed, archived, and it's all searchable as well.

Disclaimer: I came up with the service after having a need for it myself

Re:How to Bullet Journal on Wednesday January 25, 2017 @11:21AM (#13482697)
Glad you like it! Have you had a chance to try it out yet?

Currently I'm using Google's Speech API. Based on my tests, they have the best transcription results by far.

I experimented with a few others (IBM, for one) and found that while the coding was easier (because they allow a wider variety of audio file formats), the results weren't as accurate. Google, on the other hand, is fairly picky about what types of files can be processed - this is also probably what makes them more accurate. So in the background, there's a fair bit of audio transcoding that goes on before transcription.

What do you mean by error rate?

Re:How to Bullet Journal on Wednesday January 25, 2017 @11:19AM (#13482666)
You're welcome!

Have you had a chance to have your first call yet?

Exactly - plus, daily notifications get blurred out in the users mind over time. Most people don't want to download yet another app as well.

WhatsApp unfortunately doesn't provide an API - otherwise, that would be a great idea.

Currently, there isn't any built-in support with AppEngine. The steps you have to go through to ssh in and verify ownership is just a hassle.
Re:How to Bullet Journal on Tuesday January 24, 2017 @01:43PM (#13474201)
I agree completely. Cultivating the discipline to maintain a daily journal is the hardest part. Could I suggest that you check out https://www.60secondseveryday.com?

I think most Google ads are completely fine - small, text based, and non intrusive. Oftentimes very helpful as well.
Warning for anyone trying to add Lets Encrypt to GCP - absolute nightmare. Would not recommend.
So currently, we only support numbers within the US and Canada. While there are plans to expand to other countries, it isn't a priority at the moment.

For people living in other countries, we recommend that they purchase a US phone number (which can be done for as little as $1/month through something like iPlum).

And I'm assuming you mean through an app or something else?

Re:Lyft Loses $600M in 2016 as Revenue Rises to $700M on Sunday January 15, 2017 @01:40PM (#13405548)
Because competition is good for the consumers. Supporting Lyft (since most people support Uber) can only help us by stopping Uber from becoming a monopoly.
Out of curiosity, why are you a fan of CC up front for free trials? I'm trying to decide whether or not to include that for my service.
