News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

I second that. I've been talking and talking to my phone and AI even more and more since it keeps getting better and is generally pretty accurate these days. And there are times when I end up typing because of environmental reasons.

This is just really groundbreaking and I know the research has been out there for a little while but to actually implement is a whole nother ball game.

I think the use cases for this will expand as the product ships and gets out there!

Love this!!!
#HappyNews - what an uplifting piece of news today!
To communicate with each other.
It's about time! I wish Slack would offer this feature too for people who want it. I think it's going to be great for open-source, open-communication types of projects and organizations and it's well needed for the world!

With this announcement, I'm actually interested in studying the discord and participating in discord servers now! I'd much rather participate in an open garden than a closed garden.

Wow, wow! What a treat! Such a fascinating time to be alive. Talk about fast feedback loops! This is pretty quick loops for trying out ideas!

I'm very impressed!

Muse is great at selling stuff on Marketplace. I just talk to it and give it photos and it makes the listing for me! Amazing!
As an Oregon resident, I approve!

Love this!

This is why I think Cloudflare's new service to offer micropayments to agents is going to win and convert the ad ridden web to the ad-free web
I think Golden age, because I'm more inspired than ever to learn more math now.
Is this the Joma Tech inspiration video?

This is going to be really useful actually, nice work! Can't wait for it to be on Linux too!

I so so so love this! Thank you for putting effort into communicating this crucial information.

From my point of view, as software engineer who is extensively used Claude Code and ChatGPT from the beginning, OpenAI is nailing it!
I've had my eye on one of these little musical wonder boxes for a long time!

I'm still hoping to try one soon. Maybe this is my time!

Re:Surprisingly Complex Waves Reveal the Brain's Inner Workings on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @04:04PM (#49913575)
Wow!!

“The work coming out is moving this from ‘Are they relevant?’ to ‘This is a major motif of how the cortex processes information,’” said Earl K. Miller(opens a new tab), a cognitive neuroscientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Re:Dots: Always-on agents on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @04:38PM (#49900097)
I'm excited to try Dots out, I'm pretty tech savvy and don't really want to run my own open claw (I've successfully setup open claw previously). I'm very excited to have frontier intelligence at a decent price, be available in a managed always on agent.

Now I also just need open AI to release their own phone so I can summon it with my own hotword and not have to say okay f*** Google ever again.

My main concern is how I can have work accounts and personal accounts seamlessly be one and not have to log in to different ones.

Re:Show HN: HN.watch – Videos of all Hacker News posts on Monday September 28, 2026 @04:28PM (#49883910)
Love this! I've already used it a bunch to go through some HN posts that I might not have otherwise read.

It's definitely a form of TLDR, but for watching?!

This feels like some kind of parallel to Jev in that. If it is super fast, what other use cases may be unlocked it, as you suggest.

Also, I love the simple, easy to remember domain name, HN.watch!

Can this be used for more than just bugs? I feel like it can but the name is going to be limiting.
Re:Opus 5.5 is good at explainer videos on Friday September 25, 2026 @12:00PM (#49846340)
I expected sound, with an explainer video. Is there sound?
I watched a video with Elon musk the other day and he was very confident saying it's already a solved problem and they already do it with Starlink to some degree. He was baffled that this debate keeps coming up.
I also read moonwalking with Einstein and it's such a great read that I committed to memorizing the first digits of Pi. Which I did using my own custom PAO system.

And then the payoff... When I would tell people I could recite the first 100 digits of Pi they would be interested and say I want to hear it. So I would start and after about 20 numbers they would just say I believe you and that would be it. So I let that skill lapse.

I think my new talent would be better spent memorizing my credit card numbers and driver's license ID.

I'm very grateful this research was done, and that the HN community voted to get this to the front page!

We need to focus on this as a global culture going forward. Very valuable to call this out.

Success as a pro athlete means you are effectively an advertising shill to make your income.

That income doesn't come from tickets alone.

Ask HN: Anyone made a HN aggregator that let's me hide all the pessimism?

Has anyone made any "Show HN:" aggregator sites that let me hide all the pessimistic comments. It seems out of hand lately, and I'm finding myself hitting the collapse button a lot.I think there is value sometimes, sure, but sometimes I just want to see the celebratory comments first for some of these amazing technologies that hit the front page!

Nice, it's just temporary to make sure that existing Astra users are taken care of.

Sounds to me like a company that cares about a great user experience!

Re:Don't Let Anyone Take Away Your Big Box of Cables on Thursday September 10, 2026 @01:10PM (#49647087)
Clear Hefty Slider bags are perfect for this! I have my cable boxes (Hefty Hi-Rise) filled with these bags, USB -A to USB-C, USB -C to USB-C (then sub-bagged with 65w, 100w, 240w) and so on.

Point is, use clear bags so you can see inside, and Hefty makes the slider version. I get the gallon and half gallon bags for this, and then the quart size as well. This is the Marie Kondo technique and it's amazing for keeping all these cables which are always coming in handy!

I keep the duplicates, because you never know which color and length is going to be the perfect fit for the current need!
