could be a digital copy but stored in an offline vault
Re:Towards "Let's Encrypt" for Document Signing on Tuesday March 10, 2026 @12:27PM (#47325441)
I wrote this while working on AES and QES support for Documenso. The digital signing stack is surprisingly tightly coupled today. Curious how others working with eIDAS infrastructure see this evolving.
Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (October 2025) on Friday October 17, 2025 @09:13AM (#45616397)
Trust and Regulation like QTSP and all the other red tape
Thonmas Kehl, founder of german finance channel Finanzfluss is suing meta for allowing paid ads using their brand and his personal image via AI deep fakes.
Re:Show HN: Algora – Open source coding bounties on Wednesday October 04, 2023 @03:18PM (#37770216)
Same, we tip almost exclusively on algora
Noted. I think best practice signing is pretty learn free at this point, but it is good to remeber this notion
Good point. Cryptography can be a remedy here, but this is still a relevant factor IMO
Would you (or the company you work for) self-host a document signing solution if that were an option? I find it really weird, that there seems to be no obvious option to do so, in a space that so obviously has reason to.

Disclaimer: I recently started Documenso

Re:Hard time figuring out basic things in reactjs on Thursday December 29, 2022 @04:36AM (#34171018)
If you want a bit more structure, a more opinionated framework like nextjs or similar could be for you
Pretty neat, thanks
The larger mission would be to reduce reliance on one player that has 70+ percent of the market and decentralize trust. Centralized trust is going out of style fast..
Is CAcert still alive? I read the project kinda died
I also agree with you for what it's worth. Even it is somewhat possible, it should be WAY more open and free. Like SSL it's not a luxury competitve edge, but basic modern day infrastructure
That's a great hint, will look into that..
Sorry you lost me on blockain. Also IF any blockchain were to be used to persist stuff like this it's the biggest, most decentralized.
i did not see anything about beeing a CA on first scan but if that's works it would be great
How can something so fundamentally math-based as Public-key cryptography be so heavyliy patented?

Ask HN: Why isn't there something like Let's Encrypt for document signing?

Considering how easy it is to generate a public/private key pair it's not that easy and not cheap to get an widely trusted document signing certificate. Especially one with LTV (longtime valid for verifying)Is this just the market monopoly? If letsencrypt broke it for SSL, couldn't it be done for PDF signing also?

If done right who creates it should Not matter, Similar to bitcoin.
Time will tell if this gains Traction, but for once the approach is right. HN is not that into crypto from what I can tell, i noticed before already.
Re:Photographs: Removed on Thursday December 13, 2018 @04:55PM (#18676502)
Same works if you remove a spoon and porridge. This is uttlery meaningless even if it were real life. Projecting behavioural triggers on technology is flawed most of the time.
Re:Project Free TV shut down on Sunday July 26, 2015 @07:10AM (#9950738)
Looks like a makeover. Maybe it was a marketing stunt just posting "Goodbye"... or just bad communication
