Studies have shown that the first 5 years of a child's life is when the brain develops the most. Proper nutrition and exposure to simple problem solving will significantly increase the chances of the child having a higher IQ.

Epic article.....thanks!
Re:VCs are liars. And so am I. on Thursday June 14, 2012 @12:19PM (#4112060)
I agree. At the end of the day you still have to be pragmatic and intellectually honest to yourself. But if the critique is coming from someone who only heard your concept for the first time or that he/she has no domain expertise in the industry you're trying to get into then you should not accept it too easily. There is always a fine line between being stubborn and having dogged determination.....

Damn I feed off that shit too! What I noticed about myself is that I would try so much harder when people tell me I can't do it, I am hell bent on proving them wrong. The problem is that much of my life people have been nice to me......I need more assholes in my life....LOL

I think "don't die" refer mostly to his ambition and startup....epic!
Re:Pivots are a Trap on Thursday May 17, 2012 @07:31PM (#3989656)
For our start-up we made a major pivot but it complements the original concept and even expanded it. If a pivot requires significant change in direction and scrapping major elements of your original idea then one really has to think hard before taking the next step.

Actually WePay is moving away its focus from group payments to small stores, merchants, and fundraising.

The next step is to have a reality show about this. A few weeks into it they're gonna start fighting over who took who's toothbrush.....lol
Re:Once on Tuesday May 08, 2012 @07:18PM (#3946306)
haha we're still on stealth mode but we're building a system that will open online payments to the rest of the world. We mean EVERYONE!. 80-90% of people in emerging market economies have no access to online payments because they don't have bank accounts or credit cards. Our system will bypass that requirement and just enable people to accept payments immediately, it's that simple. Of course we are willing to discuss/brainstorm our ideas with other entrepreneurs.
Re:Once on Tuesday May 08, 2012 @06:49PM (#3946176)
My dad asked me once why I would ever leave my good paying Finance job to start a company with a 1% statistical chance of success. I told him that if you want to belong to the top 1% you have to take the 1% chance of success.
I bet couples can find a lot of creative ways to use this, especially the touch vibrating feature. You can vote this comment negatively if you like but this is a very valid point I am making. This is as intimate as any app could get and there is a demand for this. Hey this is reality and we're all adults here. Gives more color to life and we only have one, enjoy it. Good work Pair team!
well played....well played....

Drew Houston definitely knew the threats to DropBox. I'm sure he already has a plan to counter this. He's been ready since 2007.
Re:Introducing Google Drive... yes, really on Tuesday April 24, 2012 @01:02PM (#3884956)
I wonder how different this is from insync ( insynchq.com ) when it comes to syncing googledocs.
Re:Introducing Google Drive... yes, really on Tuesday April 24, 2012 @12:57PM (#3884908)
I wonder how insync ( https://www.insynchq.com/ ) will adapt to this launch of Google Drive since they specialize on syncing googledocs.
Re:Ask HN: Rejected from YC? Who are you? on Tuesday April 24, 2012 @12:15PM (#3884618)
No we're not planning to link with WU directly, no need for that. You can actually build that network yourself by designing your system to be accessible to those involved in the distribution. Xoom.com built their own network from the ground up, and they only charge $5.99 per transfer. I had dealt with these distributors before when I launched moneytran back in 2005, too bad the state of CA didn't approve my license to transfer money because I didn't have the 500K minimum asset to qualify so I had to shut down. I tried to bootstrap it and I was just a one man team. Now I'm working with a brilliant team and we're trying to raise funding. Last time it was just all my savings. Because of regulations it is virtually impossible to bootstrap a payments or money transfer service.

Re:Entrepreneurship's Dirty Little Secret on Wednesday April 18, 2012 @01:15PM (#3859049)
Well I agree that it's better to talk with people who did the exact same thing you're planning to do. The experience is more detailed. But her article is about entrepreneurship in general, not a specific type of business. That's why one of her advice was to work for a company that specializes on the industry you want to get into.
Re:Ask HN: WePay and Stripe on Tuesday April 17, 2012 @07:25PM (#3855568)
Well it depends on your average transaction and whether if you're OK if your customers are directed to the WePay site to make a payment.
