So, in general, swiffy appears to be a relatively heavyweight solution that
is not (yet?) optimized for mobile devices. Morever, there are 4 (yes 4!)
giant swiffy ads on the landing page of androidpolice.com, each of which
consumes more than half the viewport, all of which are dynamic.

Re:Ask HN: What do you do when an homeless ask you money? on Thursday August 06, 2015 @10:30AM (#10016669)
I usually give all my little coins (< 1€).

Sometimes it's a lot, sometimes not. It's a lot to them but to me the coins are annoying, I have to waste time sorting them and carrying them around. They are difficult to spend for me.

Re:Retention Is the Key on Thursday August 06, 2015 @07:07AM (#10015688)
Soon, retention hackers:

    - Prevent people from unsubscribing
    - Prevent people from canceling their orders
    - Discounts if buy every day/week/month
    - Sending tons of emails with fake site activity ("somebody sent you a message"-style)
I'm 23, left school when 21 and now going back exactly for the same reason.

Without an degree you have to prove yourself harder for every single little thing (resume, visa, job applications, etc.).

So he got food, water, shower and toilets from Google's office.

He only used his van as a sleeping place.

He should definitely do an AMA:

    What about Internet access?
What about the cold? Sleeping bags? Isolation inside the van?
What about the hot? Air conditioning?
Re:Soylent 2.0 on Monday August 03, 2015 @11:22AM (#9996596)
Thanks, here is their website: http://mymana.eu/

I couldn't buy Soylent (I'm in France), so I made one myself based on what I learned in the DIY Soylent community: https://diy.soylent.com

The companies that are the most similar to Google are Microsoft and Yahoo, both far behind.

    right arrow
    w = start
x = action (jump for instance)
This is fucking amazing!
Re:Why Baidu Has Been Hijacked to Attack GitHub on Friday March 27, 2015 @09:47AM (#9276194)
They seem to push the DDoS from multiple fronts, for instance this repo has 100k random numbers commits: https://github.com/greatfire/z

Re:Pencil code on Tuesday March 24, 2015 @10:29AM (#9256779)
Pretty awesome, you can write functions, use variables, etc... This is how I always wanted Scratch to be, thanks.
Thanks for the link, very interesting that it's a technical limitation for them to not enable HTTPS.

About china, maybe only the IPs from china can use HTTP, maybe only zh.wikipedia.org can use HTTP, ...

I think legal solutions are just temporary fixes, technical ones fix the root of the problem in a more generic way.

The solution should be technical: You don't want to NSA to read your communications: encrypt them (eg: HTTPS everywhere, encryption built-in everywhere). And that's us, builders of technologies, that need to make that happen.

Basically securing against the NSA is the same as securing against hackers, it should be treated as a security threat like any other.

Re:MacBook Pro Repair Extension Program for Video Issues on Friday February 20, 2015 @08:44AM (#9080337)
Yep, happens to me too, random freezing is especially annoying.

Also, random weird black screen flickering, and grey/old-TV-like screen glitches are just ugly but not really a problem.

Re:Ask HN: What is “full stack” actually? on Wednesday February 11, 2015 @09:22AM (#9032947)
Most of the time it means backend and frontend programming skills (eg: JS for frontend and Ruby for backend).
