What PG says is 100% true. I say this having done a startup in the space.
In a nut shell, you need roughly $1M upfront for legal fees to negotiate with the big four record labels (for an interactive service, not a non-interactive service like Pandora).
IIRC, Grooveshark only pays EMI royalties, and UMG is taking them to court. Sony and Warner have no deals.
I'd be curious to see what Sony and Warner choose to do.
Well, we do have Grooveshark. But it probably won't last. :(
I've done Daring Fireball several times for The Little App Factory (tlaf.com). While the immediate response is fairly good, I believe the real payoff is more long term. Publishers and the hardcore mac community notices what's advertised there and may be more inclined to write-up your product or service.
And to clarify: telecommuting works for us.
FratMusic, LLC -
http://fratmusic.com/The site has 100k visits a day (started ~August '09), and a considerable amount of financing. We're looking for somebody to lead the day-to-day development for a good amount of equity or pay (your call). A good understanding of what makes a "complete" and usable consumer product is critical. Also, the backend is python / django.
And obviously, if you like music too... we'd really love to have you!

I feel bad posting this (and will be voted down probably), but why is this significant?
and now there's a good chance you can walk into a random café and see someone using your product.. :)
Does that line of thought inevitably lead to nihilism? I mean, isn't life just as arbitrary?
Thanks for your valuable feedback. :P
Thanks for the feedback.
Yes, there is a bookmarklet and we'll be adding it to the website soon (or straight into the app). If you want it now, add this to your bookmark bar:
javascript:document.location.href='evom://'+escape(document.location.href)
And we'll look into getting those popups fixed.
Yes, we're adding that feature soon. Thanks for the feedback! :)

Thanks for the feedback about the clarity & the ease of use. I'll definitely look on making it easier and clearer.

As I imagine a lot of people have Macs here, I thought it appropriate to post this. It's a desktop app for ripping videos from the web and converting movies to a format suitable for iTunes & iPod. So those bittorrent videos can finally find a place in iTunes & your iPod. You can rip movies straight from YouTube by dragging the url icon into the app.
I highly recommend you try not taking Adderall. In my experience (I've had plenty of experience), it only screws with your priorities (you think you can do anything while you're on it) and makes you completely useless when you're not taking it.
I was prescribed it myself for several years, and only recently went off. I've replaced Adderall with a little bit of caffeine, and lots of exercise.
And yes, Adderall has a bunch of negative side effects. Try it once if you want, but don't make a habit out of it--you'll regret it long term.
You walk the walk, but do you talk the talk?
