Re:Create unique Social Media Posts in bulk on Wednesday July 15, 2020 @05:53AM (#23843117)
I created Post Maker to scratch my own itch of having plenty of Social Media Scheduling tools but with no content being shared for the majority of the time.

Using a pretty simple syntax you can generate, 10s, 100s and 1000s of posts with links/media/hashtags which can be exported to CSV and then brought into your favourite Social Media Scheduling tool

It reminds me of this sketch on YouTube - Sticko! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58zzs4hzEIg
I really love the conciseness and accessibility of 'Two Minute Papers' - "Awesome research for everyone. Two new science videos every week. You'll love it!"

I have been using DOT diagrams a bit recently - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOT_(graph_description_languag... - I like it because I can put into source control too
Re:Ask HN: What tools do you use to prototype web UI? on Tuesday November 01, 2016 @09:49AM (#12845663)
Do you mean Lorem Ipsum? - http://www.lipsum.com/

In MS Word you can generate is by typing the following and pressing enter

=lorem()

you can put # of paragraphs into the method to add that many e.g =lorem(5)

you can also use =rand() to put in some random help stuff text

Re:Ask HN: Is IT actually not for me? on Friday February 06, 2015 @03:20AM (#9008117)
I would definitely agree with this comment too. I work at a large law firm, now managing a team of developers. I've been in the industry for ~6 years. HN is not what the majority of programmers do.

I started off in IT procurement and worked my way up by showing how I can add value to doing things like you said with the tools around me (Excel, VBA).

If you can demonstrate that you want to solve their problems that's far more important than being a language\framework specialist.

Stability, reduced risk, maintainability, solid track record are more valuable to companies than just using new technologies - these come in and out of fashion - good developers solve problems not just use technologies

It's not been coded too well, try selecting C#, not happy.

People in the UK can't read this... Now I want to know more

There must have been a lot of plugging and unplugging JIBO to create their video!

It does look neat though.

Re:Rent Lego Sets on Wednesday July 02, 2014 @08:45AM (#7976587)
Why is the lego photoshopped onto a family playing dominoes?

Yes
Re:Asana Status on Thursday March 20, 2014 @02:54PM (#7437764)
I think it is to show that usually all you see when using Asana is the loading screen?
Re:Ask HN: I've been asked to give a speech: I am terrified. on Thursday October 10, 2013 @09:09AM (#6527340)
If there is a local Toastmaster's club I would recommend going: http://www.toastmasters.org/ there are other clubs but they provide a very supportive environment for starting to speak in public.

I've been lucky enough to speak at a few conferences, and if you're confident on your subject, which I am sure you are, you should just think of it as you passing on your experience. Don't think of it as a judgement of you or your past, people there want you to do well, you're up there for a reason which is because you're the one who can give them the information they're there to hear.

I say go for it, if you can go to a speaking club near by to get constructive criticism and help your confidence

Good luck!
