Show HN: PoopyFeed – Self-hosted baby tracking for feedings, diapers, and naps

https://github.com/DavidMiserak/poopyfeed

PoopyFeed is an open source baby care tracking app I built with Django. It tracks feedings (bottle/breast), diaper changes, and naps. The main reason I built this: commercial baby tracking apps either have subscriptions, require accounts with their servers, or don't let multiple caregivers collaborate well. I wanted something self-hostable where my family's data stays under our control. Key...

Thanks! That is on my roadmap. I need to extract the notes form the database(sqlite)[0] from the zip file and process it along with the many media files it can contain. Right now this is a TUI and will have limited media capabilities.

Show HN: GoCard – A file-based spaced repetition system built in Go

https://github.com/DavidMiserak/GoCard

Hi HN! I'm excited to share GoCard, a terminal-based spaced repetition system I built that uses plain Markdown files as its data source.I've always been frustrated with existing spaced repetition tools that lock my knowledge into proprietary formats or require constant internet access. As a developer who lives in terminals and text editors, I wanted something that:1. Stores cards as plain text...

Re:Ask HN: How did you find yourself on HN? on Friday May 26, 2023 @09:28AM (#36083830)
I read about it in a book called Chaos Monkeys.
Re:Ask HN: How do you synthesize books that you read? on Thursday April 27, 2023 @10:41AM (#35728882)
I have success retaining information by explaining it to another human being. This can lead to me rereading sections and keeps me engaged with the content.

This is consistent with what I have read from "Your Memory : How It Works and How to Improve It" by K. Higbee.

I would encourage you to take a look at the ACM CS Curricula for exemplar programs and courses. From there you can check out materials and lectures from Stanford University's Engineering Everywhere program[0].

There are colleges and universities in the USA that offer SE degrees, CMU is of note[0]

A great place to start is the ACM CS Curricula. It has a list of exemplar courses and well defined criteria.
Myron Barnstone has a great series on the topic. Some of his stuff is on YouTube.

Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (October 2021) on Friday October 08, 2021 @11:07PM (#28806670)
I've applied to this company twice before. Both times they've cancelled before the sit-down interview / personality quiz.
Re:Ask HN: Graduating CS soon, how do I find a job? on Sunday September 12, 2021 @05:42PM (#28505291)
I would recommend against this.

I was a NOC Engineer at an ISP and later a MSP while getting my degree. My peers we're those with unskilled jobs previously who took a few college courses.

My resume was routinely sent over to the IT help desk manager whenever I applied for a software role.

I got past it by volunteering as a Bioinformatics SE at the local university.
