"According to one estimate, some Teens may see as many as 1,260 ads per day.200 Children and Teens may be lured through these ads into making purchases or handing over personal information and other data via dark patterns"

There is a long trail of blood behind google and facebook, amazon... Etc...

No one saw this comming
I know little about this case but remember the wild show Kim put on before his arrest. The way I saw it then was his colleagues pleaded guilty and where never extradited so my assumption was new Zealand would bend to his favour but I guess interpretation of rule of law is above precedence... I wish I could say I know what Im talking about.
The bulk of the claims will more then likely come from Hollywood film studios.
The 2nd, 3rd Generations ahead are entitled to that wealth they did not work for it, they simply accepted it as a gift from there relative or mother and father. They are not matching each dollar pound for pound with sweat over there foreheads. Wealth squandered, I just didn't think that 70-90% lose there wealth, it seems like an immense number to me but when you consider how careless and uninformed people get, it is not entirely surprise.
Re:Can Universal Basic Income Transform Society? on Wednesday July 17, 2024 @09:41AM (#40985844)
UBI in effect would clean the most degenerate and ignored few in society while at the same time liberating the masses from aimless drudgery. It will inject cash into the consumer market and lower risk to seeking credit. I see it as the ultimate form of capitalism when everyone has a means to acquire goods and services at a mutually agreed upon standard. I also see it as the only option to avert a cataclysmic economic event when we all get layed off and replaced by robots. Read this article from McMaster about UBI in action in the Province of Ontario, it is short and clears up many pre conceived notions against such a program.

A lot of media in Canada is subsidized, the government needs to justify its expenses somehow. It has nothing to do with Canadian exceptionalism or something like that.
Re:New York medical school eliminates tuition after $1B gift on Monday February 26, 2024 @05:04PM (#39517271)
"I wanted to fund students at Einstein so that they would receive free tuition," Dr Gottesman said she immediately realised. "There was enough money to do that in perpetuity."

I have never heard of a school getting this lucky from there alumni/faculty and even hearing there students getting something out of it so it touched my heart I have always had a toxic opinion about my teachers. Perhaps this could turn into an example for the rest of Americas medical schools in the coming decades.

Re:The Triumph and Terror of Wang Huning on Thursday February 08, 2024 @10:41PM (#39311114)
Neo conservative beliefs are structured on age old assertions that don't make sense in a modern world so they need to be argued for by apologetics who are pampered by there masters and generously sustained by there book sales. This Wang seems no better then Rush Limbaugh or Alex Jones, who just mentions what populists need to hear to feel vindicated for supposedly being 'real' which I assume means they have no desires for luxurys beyond a roof over there head and a family wagon in there drive way. Although I find it easy to linger on his complaints about life in America and agree on pretty much everything it just boggles how he plans to fix any of this in China when the feedback they are getting to these reactionary social changes are that the communist party is getting is that they are out of touch. Wang reminds me of my father at the dinner table with his fist next to the bread and cheese, churning food in his mouth while staring at me, and smiling, laughing: "Son you'll grow up and be a father just like me one day."
“inconsistent with Microsoft’s suggestion to this Court that the two companies will operate independently post-merger.”

I believe there was supposed to be a 10 year pause to any structural changes to Activision in addition to keeping the Call of Duty IP non-exclusive, firing these workers is a gain for Microsoft as it recoups cash from the merger and if anything this makes Activision dependent on its new parent Microsoft so the FTC has a good point here but I doubt they will get anything.

considering how silly some of these court documents where and the tacky controversial nonsense arguments from the executives at Microsoft and Sony... and the 'gamers lawsuit' you would be tricked into believing if whether this where just another marketing trick from Microsoft.

Re:Disney to take $1.5B stake in Epic Games on Thursday February 08, 2024 @01:04PM (#39305294)
This puts Disney in the same board table with Tencent and Sony.

I have a deep feeling that in the future on any given street a random group of people wearing glowing ski goggles will mindlessly flail there hands in the air talking to themselves in broken sentences that are impossible to make sense of, similar to the cellphone addicts of today who look down at there toes with indifference about the world around them, these hand flailing people will be another liability to consider when stepping off a bus platform onto a busy street.
Trump had no problems with increasing the nation's debt, republicans cheered him on, because debt is a political pawn that both parties move where they see fit when they need too. Republicans in general use fear tactics and 'exestential' threats or religious context to get things done because they are fear mongers.
Just raise the ceiling as any reasonable government would do, it seems to me as if whether it was Obama or Biden or Trump who did so, the outcome was pretty much status quo for the economy and after the hoorah things went back to usual.

Republicans feed on fear it's no secret.

Banks transfer liabilities to there customers who in turn transfer there newly found assets to the stock market.

Banks get a monthly interest

Stocks get more liquidity

You get a combination of assets and liabilities. Your just a middle man assuming that your investments can do better then you and the bank.

"the bottom 80% spends more than its income, year in and year out. Only the top 20% consistently saves."

Shocking that it took so long for a mouthpiece to come too a conclusion like this. I've said it too myself several times that money is a zero sum game, what comes in goes out just like that in the blink of an eye untill the next sucker comes along for the ride and bail you out. Consider how illiquid younger generations are becoming compared to there parents I only assume this ratio to savings will get even wider making us rely on even more loans to hold us afloat from poverty induced mediocrity.

Maybe it's me but consider the content on these streaming platforms which seem to me as a mix of syndicated shows and romantic action films. Where exactly people find value in tv tropes and expensive camera work is something only the producers in Hollywood can answer, pirating is a means to an end and by that I mean, most of it is so shit that it's not worth the price on the label to do the reasonable thing and pay for it.
Fees on digital payments by merchants should be banned, if we are going into a digital era without cash and an expectation that everyone pays digitaly then they should come along with us and be more accommodating or atleast more realistic if they want our business, even if it is just a small cup of coffee the convenience of tap and scan is far superior to dragging your feet to a machine in the middle of the night looking over your shoulder always expecting the worst.
