Re:Ask: Local Tech Scene in Hangzhou, China? on Thursday September 28, 2017 @01:54AM (#15354964)
Thanks for the tip! Do you know any online communities I could join while I'm still abroad?

Ask: Local Tech Scene in Hangzhou, China?

I'm going to Hangzhou, China for my wife's student exchange program. We'll be there for a month. I was hoping to have the opportunity to get acquainted with the Chinese tech scene and perhaps make local connections. Does anyone know of such a local tech scene? How can I learn more on what's going on there?

Thanks so much for your feedback! Is there any chance you'd be willing to chat some more via email?

Ask: Has anyone sold software to the conferencing industry. Advice?

I've got an idea and a prototype that solves something very basic in how conferences are being conducted today. To the best of my knowledge it's novel and relies on some of my university research.I'm looking for advice from other people who tried selling to conference organizers and content creator. Can anyone please share his insights ?Thank you

shameless brag - I've developed a chrome extension that creates immediate summaries from long video talks - Brieftube.com. I used it myself on this talk and found the major topics in a few seconds.
Re:Ask HN: What are the most useful Chrome extensions in 2016? on Saturday December 31, 2016 @11:14AM (#13291583)
I developed BriefTube.com - It's an instant video summarizer (better put TLDR; for long videos)

I use it a lot myself, mostly for lectures on youtube and coursera.

Wow, looks amazing. However I thought of finding my own niche / domain. This seems very structured on the one hand but would prevent me from finding my own small world to apply my new acquired knowledge on.

Ask HN: Overwhelmed with learning machine learning, how do I proceed?

Inspired by this thread and the excellent answers (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12882816), I felt courageous enough to open ask myself.I've completed Andrew Ng course on Coursera but now I feel overwhelmed by the variety of information on machine learning out there. How do I start a new project? How do I choose what problem to pick and what algorithms to apply?

oh, thanks for the heads up. I'll fix the glitch.
BriefTube.com is a TLDR; for Youtube educational videos. Instantly get the gist of what is being said and when.

BriefTube - It's a chrome extension that provides TLDR; for long videos. It works well on Youtube, Coursera, Edx etc.

Thanks! Will take a better look at these links. Do you have any use case where you'd find brieftube to be useful?
I'm sorry, I wanted to share my experiences and get some feedback on the product I built based on them. Should I write "shameless brag" in the title?

I'm building a new business. I'm afraid to be copied. Should I patent it?

I've built a new product. I showed it to a couple of target groups (who are part of my target audience). All the people's response was: I like it and would be willing to pay money for it.I tried contacting a company offering a related service, offering them a cooperation. I suggested a simplified version of what I showcased my focus group. The company said "thank you for the suggestion, we'll...

Thanks! also, thanks for actually reading my explanations :)

Good point. My app doesn't replace the video as the source, but rather creates a smart way to navigate it. Give it a try. I'd be happy to hear your thoughts.

I have a very similar problem of 'get to the main point' in videos. That is why I've built BriefTube (brieftube.net). It gives you instant automatic summarisation of lengthy youtube videos (with more platforms on the way).
on other platforms where the store was free I got a very different response. Wix, Shopify even surprisingly enough Facebook. I don't think it's an excuse

Rant: You think Apple has neglected its developers? The chrome webstore is worse

Rant: You think Apple has neglected its developers? The chrome webstore is worseA few months ago I've submitted my first chrome extension to the chrome webstore. It wasn't an immediate success like I might have wished it to be, but it was a "scratch" your own problem kind of product and I was satisfied. I acquired some users, some were active some were not and I kept adding features that I felt...

Ask: Sugar is bad for cancer, is it also bad for other growths like psoriasis?

Sugar is bad for cancer, is it also bad for other growths like psoriasis? From what I understand cancer cells use sugar as their fuel for rapid division. With psoriasis skin cells rapidly divide and grow out of control (1000X times more than with healthy people). Can reducing sugar from one's diet somehow improve the state of the illness?I couldn't find any evidence or research in this field,...

ask:I started charging money on my app. Flurry says 2k download, iTunes says 200

Hello,I've developed an iOS application. My application has been receiving a steady download rate of 5K per day. Lately, I've become short on money and decided to start charging money for downloading the app. From that point onwards AppStore reported a decline to around 200 installs per day, whereas Flurry, Facebook and crashalytics have all been reporting ~2 k new app installs. How could that...
