Re:How the World Cup’s AI instant replay works on Friday December 02, 2022 @02:53AM (#33827987)
This video did not explain the ""AI"" part of the tech at all. Seems to be basic pose estimation? Nothing fancy really.

But what people really will want to talk about is VAR and if its good. Personally, I've found it adds to the drama, making a better product.

The biggest stain on FOSS, with the worst apologists, 27 years strong! Try drawing a circle, in the year 2022.

I take Everett Rd to work every day. The revamp and surrounding developments have pushed the whole population of deer curbside.

I have had 3 near collisions in the past year. My friends, about the same.

Be warned

Ongoing investigation, good idea to wait before coming to judgements about intent and origin.

From the BBC [0]: Unverified pictures indicate it was from an S-300, used by both Ukraine and Russia.

Any data on cavities per capita in the area over the past decade?
Re:Starting a food co-op: Year 1 on Monday October 10, 2022 @09:15PM (#33158319)
this seems misdirected. there was only one paragraph at the end. i found the rest of the article insightful and interesting
Delete this. You have about 6 minutes before the HN window expire.

Don't post about involvement during an ongoing investigation, especially not from your main.

Even if you think you have done no harm. Speaking from experience :)

The Toradic shmita is a half-decent model for the boom-bust cycle of the economy.
Is it possible to understand that Russia is the aggressor but also oppose sanctions? Russia has absolutely committed more atrocities than Iran and Cuba, but none of these countries are democracies, and therefore I find it difficult to support measures that disproportionately affect the citizenry over the ruling class in any of these countries.

I also hope the dialogue in these threads can improve. The quality of the comments, at the time of writing mine, are poor and quippy.

Re:Why do we salt the ice when making ice cream? on Thursday September 22, 2022 @01:52PM (#32942351)
Almost. For the salted cube, remember to pour the salt on your hand and then put the ice cube on top.
Not sure if this is still true after SelTrac upgrades

I use a FF Add-On called DF (Distraction Free) Youtube. I turn off everything but the subscriptions tab.

Search on Youtube is dead, recommendations all but. At this point I discover creators on other platforms, then subscribe to them on Youtube.

> meetup.com actually "offered" our meetups

Do you have a link or a screenshot you can show us? Might help contextualize.

Pretty meaningless without location.
You speak like a code monkey, so your best bet is not building your own generation facility, but managing others'. Renewable asset managers design algorithms that control the charge/discharge of storage connected to renewable generators in order to maximize profit.

Re:Day ahead electricity prices for EU on Saturday August 27, 2022 @05:07PM (#32623217)
The grandparent could have done a better job explaining what she meant. You've explained it much better. EU rules forbid discrimination between domestic and EEA customers in electricity markets. Therefore, any significantly interconnected country to the rest of the EU will have similar prices.

Countries like Norway, which have abundant, cheap, generation, are paying EEA prices in its highly interconnected bidding zones (NO1,NO2). The next few months, if prices persist, are likely to see lots of pressure from Norwegians to curtail exports (i.e. close off transmission capacity to EEA). This would significantly decrease prices for Norwegians, but damage the EU's integrity. The same can be said of other countries with abundant, cheap generation that are suffering the consequences of other EEA countries' actions w.r.t their electricity supply.

I say this as a supporter of the EU, but the integrated electricity market's future is in peril this winter.

Re:Day ahead electricity prices for EU on Saturday August 27, 2022 @03:07PM (#32622035)
Similar price trends are to be expected across all nodes in highly interconnected grids.

This is most likely increases in "B", less "LGT", though I expect all to increase given the reduction in stigma.

Vast majority of new cases of "B" are likely to be cultural. i.e. White women in HS/Uni. Declared, but never expressed.

As with all regimen-based health/nutrition studies, the results can be ignored. Instead, use these studies for ideas, and experiment yourself to find out what works for you.
> but it turns out that the theoretically optimal structure is a single blade

In Betz's own derivation, the ideal rotor is an "actuator disk", having an infinite number of blades, which have no drag.

Upon further review, the countries are Iran, Suriname, Sri Lanka, Argentina, Turkey, Syria, Sudan, Venezuela, Lebanon, Zimbabwe per: https://tradingeconomics.com/country-list/inflation-rate-
> 1. Middle East, SE Asia, and South America all have inflation above 50%.

https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/06/15/in-the-u-s-...

This source is lacking, but the only countries above 50% inflation I can find are Turkey and Argentina. Could you point me in the direction of where you got your numbers?

Perhaps you misread? The parent comment says:

> It was a conspiracy theory, according to liberals, to believe that the vaccine would be mandatory and that it would not stop the disease.

> It was a conspiracy that russia would invade ukraine according to conservatives until it happened.

You appear to be agreeing with him? In any case, the use of "nutcase" isn't productive.

Who says fads are confined to Tumblr?
The notable exception to this, of course, is Trump's primary AND general elections.
Hey please consider changing this comment to substantively add to the discussion. Empty snark, no matter how good it feels, really isn't HNs style and doesn't promote healthy discourse.
