Re:Slack Is Going Public at a $16B Valuation on Wednesday June 19, 2019 @10:15PM (#20229241)
My company just switched from Slack to Teams.

I think it is hard for cost conscious organizations with o365 to justify slack.

At some level Mors law is the ultimate driver of tech growth. It's not looking so hot.

Re:Microsoft now has the best hardware lineup in the industry on Wednesday October 03, 2018 @12:38PM (#18131993)
A small one.

Surface pro 6: 8th gen cpu. Better screen. Available in black.

Surface laptop 2: 8th gen cpu. Better screen. Available in black.

Surface studio 2: Gpu bump (1060/1070). Better drive (no longer hybrid). Better screen.

Yeah, UWP not supporting win7 pretty much killed it.

Might not be an issue in 5 years, by then MS will probably has a new new framework .

I use DDG, Google and Bing pretty evenly. Unsurprisingly each out performs the others on some searches.

Google generally has the best results but for 95% of searches they all find what I need.

Re:Alphabet Announces Second Quarter 2018 Results [pdf] on Monday July 23, 2018 @10:33PM (#17597694)
I recently learned a new word: monopsony. That is, a market where single buyer has enough market power to dictate the terms of sale.

If google is not a monopsony they are certainly very close. This is reflected in the margins of online publishers vs those of google. If you want to publish content online, you have to do it on googles terms.

This degree of market power over the flow of information frankly makes me pretty uncomfortable.

I have been watching Dave2D videos for years. He is one of the best laptop reviewers on YouTube.
