The bill gives more authority to the Departments of Homeland Security...

Yeah. Right, no more jurisdiction to DHS on labor matters.

Re:Microsoft announces Lists, a new Airtable-like app on Tuesday May 19, 2020 @05:22PM (#23240398)
This looks like a product push to make the most out of WAH during COVID-19 crisis. On similar note, I must say that Zoom ate Skype's lunch within weeks and MS marketing team has royally screwed that one up.

My NodeJs app running inside a Docker container which is running inside a Linux Debian OS running as one of the VMs inside a Windows OS installed on a rack-mount server module housed with other modules in a server cabinet. The "atomic" structure of cloud infra.

Is HN getting a lot of Reddit traffic recently?
Re:Twitter Will Allow Employees to Work at Home Forever on Tuesday May 12, 2020 @02:15PM (#23157542)
What's the guarantee that say your San Francisco/NYC employer will keep paying you city rates when you are living in a small town in mid-west. At some point they will catch up and start saving money this way. Everyone at a tech company is not a crucial employee. Don't get me wrong, I am all in for getting paid SF rates while living in a cheap Texas suburb.

The higher you go up the older they get. It is a culture shift and lets be honest no one wants to leave their comfort zone.
Re:Neiman Marcus files for bankruptcy on Friday May 08, 2020 @12:30AM (#23111401)
They just opened a huge new store at Hudson Yards in NYC. I’m sure lack of foreign rich tourists(mainly rich Chinese) during COVID months must have hurt them big time as well.

Is Zoom trying to disrupt Whatsapp space?
Re:Oracle vs. PostgreSQL: First Glance on Monday May 04, 2020 @12:56PM (#23070423)
As a dev you would use Oracle only if your execs have cut a sweet licensing deal with the Oracle.
Spending my Saturday reading various answers with different perspectives on the the genesis of the holy war between "is Java pass by reference" and "is Java pass by value" proponents.
‘However with the development of antibiotics, UBI use declined and it has now been called “the cure that time forgot”.‘

It says antibiotics. Is it me or UBI was used to treat bacterial infections or the OP is desperately correlating this study with the “effectiveness” of testing viruses with UBI? I feel like a lot of partisan users are getting the boot from Reddit and they are channeling out their frustrations here. Guys let’s keep HN pure with tech only posts.

I agree with you. Title is misleading.
Updated. Thanks for the tip.
Questions like these on SO should be taught in CS-101. There are some amazing answers in there that I would have hard time finding in textbooks.
Most of the items I have ordered from non-Aamazon small businesses during COVID-19 crisis is backed by Shopify platform. Their checkout form has a very unique layout so it is easy to tell without looking at the page source.
Re:Amazon Isn’t the Only Shop Online on Monday April 06, 2020 @05:58PM (#22798311)
Amazon's (+Wholefood) supply-chain failure is an eye-opener for me during COVID-19 crisis. I hate to acknowledge my dependability on Amazon Prime while living in a big city. I am not sure how I will break my habit but I know for a fact that I won't be ordering everything from Amazon Prime in the future.

For a company that commands e-commerce space in year 2020, it is really frustrating to find this workflow while ordering from WF while using Amazon's app, it is a joke and UI/UX 101 blunder. You add items to your cart. They run out of inventory. Items disappear from your cart. Either you place your order assuming all items were in your cart or you don't get a delivery slot and you have to add those items again. Why can't they just borrow the same feature from Amazon.com where unavailable items move conveniently to "Save later" section?

Well, time to change location privacy setting from "Always" to "Never".
Re:Dark mode for Stack Overflow on Monday March 30, 2020 @04:42PM (#22732103)
I agree with you. Plus, as a light mode user I always have hard time when someone is doing code-walkthrough in dark mode.
Re:Dark mode for Stack Overflow on Monday March 30, 2020 @02:42PM (#22730871)
Why do developers prefer dark mode for pretty much everything from IDE to OS to iOS?

Edit: added missing 'much'

Re:Facebook tax court trial begins over Ireland offshore deal on Wednesday February 19, 2020 @12:45PM (#22367929)
I hate to say this but a lot of unfounded speculation in your comment as well.

"Secondly, have you done your research? Surely Facebook is not the only company being targeted by the government right now. I can assure you that, surely there are more."

Can you back this up with some factual information? Would love to know more about other companies. Thanks.

Remind me again, does India have a democratic government or an authoritarian regime?
Re:iOS 13's Music App Sucks on Wednesday January 29, 2020 @02:31PM (#22184834)
When I select Search box I want it to default to Apple's search rather than my collection. For me that has been a pain point. Clearly from your case, various users respond differently to features.
"...The company had just over 3,800 staff at the end of September.." I am surprised why they need such high number of staff when the functionality of the website is limited to content, reviews, search itineraries. Unless they hire field agents and ask them go inquire and write about a new place.
