Author makes some valid observations but misses something important.

Who's changing the real world today? People like Bill Gates, putting billions of dollars into the fight against malaria.

What process generated that wealth?

Lanyrd solves a real-world problem and Twitter is a great choice of enabling platform. Why the short-sighted critique? I'm appalled at the response that Simon and Nat have received on this site, given that they've taken the time to involve themselves in this community.

I have doubts about any technologist that would choose to use Windows in their personal life.

Hysteria about the financial sector "taking money" out of tech is unfounded paranoia.

The financial sector moves money from idle hands amongst the rich to working hands.

Investors lose access to their cash for an agreed amount of time, and risk losing it altogether. For that risk, they are compensated by some amount of return.

This is not an immoral thing. This is the mechanism that allows people with great ideas and skills to build businesses.

If you don't like capitalism, then go sample the delights of communist North Korea.

Capitalism affords us an excellent quality of life, full of opportunity. Don't take it for granted.
