Using the phrase "echo chamber" doesn't make you alt-right, suggesting so just closes down an avenue of discussion which then leads to more division.
Re:Ask HN: How to make money while commuting to work? on Tuesday May 16, 2017 @12:50PM (#14351060)
I haven't noticed commuters doing this in London except the obviously homeless/troubled people.
Re:Monzo’s Response to Cloudbleed on Friday February 24, 2017 @10:43AM (#13724629)
It's a prepaid credit card with a great app that lets you do things like freezing your card quickly.

They also offer good exchange rates with no fees.

Personally I use it as a travel/buffer card as my main card has been copied in the past and I usually have sub £100 on my Monzo card.

Re:The Public Shaming of England’s First Umbrella User on Thursday July 28, 2016 @09:05AM (#12179905)
This just isn't true, I work in central London amongst the bankers and they're usually the first to get out a bank branded umbrella, usually obnoxiously huge ones too.
Re:The Public Shaming of England’s First Umbrella User on Thursday July 28, 2016 @09:04AM (#12179901)
Yeah, working in central London and there's always an abundance of umbrellas in use when it rains, really not sure what this commenter is talking about.
Re:Keep your identity small (2009) on Friday May 20, 2016 @06:20AM (#11736732)
The previous and continuing actions of bad people but not "you" as a collective, just the racist ones. (I'm mixed race, not that it should make my point any more/less valid).
Premium services often cost a little more money, it's a trade off between money and time. There's nothing stopping people flying if they can't afford the PreCheck, it's just a little longer. Anyway the regular line actually gets shorter when more people use the PreCheck line. Disclaimer: I'm a frequent traveller to the USA but I'm a UK citizen so I cannot use PreCheck.
It's not like the TSA is stopping people on the street, it's an agreement, if you want to enter the airport then volunteer for the search.
> iPhone in hand, with my digital ticket ready to board; so easy and pleasant.

Most airlines provide the same digital boarding passes, I often travel with my pass added to Apple Wallet.

> If an alternative airport wanted to do things a little different, such as "fly at your own risk" "no lifeguard on duty", aka no TSA b.s., I'd happily take the "at your own risk" option rather than the TSA controlled situation we're subjected to currently.

The problem here is that it's not just "your own risk" if that plane is directed at a populated area.

Re:Getting rid of free office snacks doesn't come cheap on Wednesday November 11, 2015 @08:54AM (#10546634)
No, they probably leave the workplace for 5-10 minutes to purchase one.
To build this at the authors age is very impressive.

I find it interesting to see how the youths of today embrace programming. Knowing the authors age adds value to the post IMO.

Somebody with more funds and connections could ship your idea before you rendering yours obsolete. In the case of a hardware based startup they could even patent the idea first.
People don't steal ideas. Tell as many people as possible. Never ask someone to sign an NDA before hearing your idea, you'll instantly lose all credibility

I find this hard to believe and can see why experienced people would keep startup ideas close to their chest.

Re:Amazon Dash Button on Tuesday March 31, 2015 @11:34AM (#9297008)
That would actually be the same amount of steps as the current situation.

I often leave re-stocking items till later and ultimately end up forgetting.

Re:Amazon Dash Button on Tuesday March 31, 2015 @11:30AM (#9296965)
The Gillette button seems the most useful to me, I'd have it in my bathroom drawer for when I take the last blade out of the pack.

I'd stick the Bounty button to the wall above the paper towel holder in the kitchen.

As others have said, your website is not very informative but I signed up after reading your Medium post.

I really like the project and think it has a lot of potential but could do with some polish. Well done!

Re:My experience of interviewing for a job at Apple on Wednesday February 25, 2015 @05:28AM (#9106124)
I think the author has indirectly replied to you via the article:

> Note: The numbers (700 Billion, etc) are there to give context and a sense of scale. This wasn’t a small boutique design company—which fwiw I’ve worked for a couple and loved it—this was the company who got valued by that amount because they’re doing something interesting. I personally don’t see money as a measure of worth, but as a freelancer and well, running my business, should not and cannot ignore it. Numbers such as ‘5000 miles’ are there just for stylistic reasons, saying ‘a flight’ would be way more banal. Chill and have a good one.

Re:Thousands of people are watching this guy code a search engine on Thursday February 19, 2015 @05:50AM (#9073406)
> For example, realising that other people find listening to trance music also helps them code.

I'm starting to find that listening to repetitive music helps with coding as opposed to lyric based music such as hip-hop.

It would be really interesting to see how many others feel this way and what else helps them focus.

Re:A polite rant on mobile UX on Wednesday February 18, 2015 @08:46AM (#9068430)
Spotify has a massive UX flaw.

To access the options for a track there is a button on the right hand side, this is also where the scroll menu appears. I often find myself half way up the playlist when I wanted to queue a song.

Re:Could driverless cars own themselves? on Monday February 16, 2015 @06:08AM (#9056289)
The biggest problem with driverless cars will not be the safety technology but the people controlling them.

It's not hard to imagine a scenario where most regular cars have been outlawed or restricted in favour of safer driverless ones and bus services are replaced by fleets of self driving cars. It wouldn't be long before restrictions are be placed on the journeys for the sake of profit.

Even if the self driving cars were to stay in an individuals possession I can imagine restrictions being placed by the manufacturers or insurance companies, almost like a drm for cars.

Nobody wants their idea stolen, no matter how badly written it is.
Re:BMW fixes lock security flaw on Monday February 02, 2015 @01:03PM (#8985582)
Yes it affects many higher end cars but BMW's have suffered for a long time. Their excuse for a "fix" prevents the windows from being wound down by the key.

Re:BMW fixes lock security flaw on Monday February 02, 2015 @01:02PM (#8985574)
It's a shame that BMW isn't committed to fixing the key-reprogramming method of theft that affects many of their older cars. The previous "fix" that they issued only prevented the windows being wound down from they key, not the actual reprogramming.

Re:The Internet of Gas Station Tank Gauges on Friday January 30, 2015 @06:29AM (#8971521)
Seems irresponsible to release this publicly.
> Or they are after some people who they know absolutely depend on Tor to operate. Just wild speculation though...

Maybe this is related to the Sony hacks, the authorities could know about a forthcoming data leak or threat. Taking away a major source of anonymity could prevent the information getting out.

Re:iOS 8 reviewed on Wednesday September 17, 2014 @11:44AM (#8330552)
I don't use ABP because I like to support the websites I visit, other than Youtube. The recent changes really made me turn against them.
such hack.
