Re:Vivaldi 1.2 release on Friday June 03, 2016 @08:00PM (#11834125)
What do you expect from a non native UI which is rendered by the Chromium extensions system? It only can be as fast as the used System is.

So, Vivaldi is nothing at all for people who value speed more than functions. But for people who value functions over speed, i can see that these could be drawn to it.

Re:Vivaldi 1.2 release on Friday June 03, 2016 @07:45PM (#11834057)
Vivaldi features are not that bad, but the fact that this "browser" is only a combination of some extensions bundled with Chromium is a big downside.

Also, not being able to implement more privacy for example fingerprint block is also rather bad. All they do is work inside their extensions related code with avoiding to touch actual Chromium code base.

When these guys have finally more knowledge about Chromium to either enhance it or remove unused parts - Vivaldi UI exists outside of Chromium and they carry all that Chromium luggage around which they also not using at all which means tons of dead weight - then this browser COULD be useful - of course only when Open Sourcing it 100% - but before, not even worth thinking about it.

Re:More New Mozilla Technologies on Wednesday June 01, 2016 @03:43PM (#11817520)
The thing is Mozilla is all about Chrome technology, Chrome parity and Chrome design.

Everything they care about is Google and Chrome. I miss the times where Mozilla was able to think on their own and was no follower and admirer of a dangerous and utterly greedy and disgusting tracking company called Google!

As long as they are following that path which leads more and more away from users with knowledge to users who use Chrome, Mozilla's downfall will continue.

It should be more than clear now, that Mozilla's big hope that users of Google Chrome will fill the void which is ripped open by advanced, power, geek users leaving, is not becoming a reality.

Mozilla can invent whatever they want, but as long as they do not remove the core issue - their new found ideology that only being like the competition will lead forwards - things will go more downhill.

I wonder if Mozilla can be saved.

Opera will be sold for real now

http://www.ghacks.net/2016/05/26/opera-software-sale-greenlighted-by-shareholders/Opera, once known for revolutionizing web browsing and pushing boundaries had to suffer in the last few years quite much.First their origin engine was abandoned in favor of Chromium to be able to be competitive again which many users have not liked as many features have been taken away, then the possible news of a...

Re:Firefox Test Pilot on Wednesday May 11, 2016 @01:44PM (#11677480)
Vivaldi has amazing features, yes.

But it is no real browser and only an advanced web app bundled with Chromium. Also, smashing a wrapper on top of Chromium with features and call it a day is one of the most stupid things ever which a group of developers can do.

But Vivaldi shows what guys do when they have respect of power users. They add features we want and we prefer and not only features what simple users or Chrome users want and prefer.

Re:Firefox Test Pilot on Wednesday May 11, 2016 @01:39PM (#11677423)
That is the point.

Is it so surprising that power users are the most vocal one's and do complain if one of their pet features is going to be axed? (And many of our pet features have disappeared since that Chrome UI annoyance called Australis has ruined a big part of Firefox)

And instead that Mozilla goes back a step towards power users and brings our features back what do we get instead? Features which more simple minded users do want and prefer.

It is the deconstruction of Firefox as geek base what we hate and that is the reason we are so vocal about it.

The moment where Mozilla makes a significant turn back to their roots, the moment will be the one where complaints are going to stop or at least where people can believe in Firefox again.. a little bit.

Re:Firefox Test Pilot on Wednesday May 11, 2016 @01:30PM (#11677302)
So you finally step back from cloning the Chrome UI and add customization again to the browser? Oh wait, you are implementing the Chrome extension system.

That test pilot is only damage control as you are now not only facing Chrome, also frustrated users move on to Brave or Vivaldi.

Well respected? In earlier times for sure. But Mozilla of today has totally left power users alone. I would not call that what is left a genuinely good company

Pale Moon team got as it seems some request from Mozilla to silence the Pale Moon forums Mozilla critics.
Re:Idea for a new browser product on Monday March 21, 2016 @04:40PM (#11331787)
So, they have issues already with implementing Promises and handle the older less complicated technology wise seen engine 24 - and they are seriously thinking about forking a much later code base and try to keep their old ui, remove Australis, DRM and so on?

Sounds totally unrealistic. This product will be dead on arrival.

http://logs.glob.uno/?c=mozilla%23seamonkey&s=2+Mar+2016&e=2... - Also very nice read, Mozilla guys bashing people from Pale Moon project.

What for idiots.

Not sure if this is true, but if this post is not fake, i would say Mozilla have lost the benefit of trust.

Seeing what they have done in the last few years, makes this post look less like a fake.
