Have you tried a change of name?

If your name is associated with these incidents and you need a fresh start, why don't you consider that as an option?

Obviously this might not pass the background check phase. But not all businesses do a detailed due diligence

Re:Don’t Let Architecture Astronauts Scare You (2001) on Monday August 30, 2021 @10:37PM (#28363359)
Premature optimisation is a real pain when it comes to software design and architecture. However, abstraction is a powerful and necessary tool that can make our life a lot easier by avoid repetition (DRY - don't repeat yourself).

A good architect worth their salt will be able to find the right balance. To distill and simplify a problem down to the absolute minimum where it cannot and should not be abstracted anymore before it lose or miss its core objectives and reason to exist.

I think you could investigate offering a free open source version to the wider develop community to help them experiment and use the tool before committing to purchase it.

Then later on, plan on adding paid add-on features and professional support, etc.

Re:Ask HN: What did you learn in 2019? on Sunday December 08, 2019 @05:55PM (#21739021)
That no matter how good you are at the tech. You need to mature professionally (comms, etc.) in order to avoid undermining your full career potential.

Ask HN: What's a proven SW team structure?

There has been many industry trends (Spotify, for example) and process trends (Agile's cross-functional teams) that provide an opinion on how to best structure a SW business unit. But I'm seeking HN's tried and proven feedback on what works and what doesn't when putting together business unit consisting of multiple teams that ultimately should produce working software for internal consumers in...

Ask HN: How do you interview candidates for a DevOps (systems engineering) role?

Hi HN, I was wondering how is everyone else interviewing candidates for similar roles? any online resources you use for filtering the candidates? and any sources you use for interview questions?I'm currently hiring for a similar position and wondering how to make the filtering process more effective using online tools similar to development roles, where there are online tests that are currently...

Author here. Happy to discuss or answer questions.

Ask HN: Would you join a listed company calling itself a “startup” and high risk?

I'm offered a CTO position in a listed company that calls itself a startup. They are yet to release their product and operating on a loss for the past 2 years while spending investor money. There is a high risk since they are running out of cash and their burn rate is high. Asking the obvious. but I'm interested in different perspectives.

Just found this gem in the wild. Any other good reading material out there for continuous-* discussing the business case for such industry shift?

Oh Well, if Apple cannot do a half-decent App on windows maybe they shouldn't develop software targeting windows users until they can?

Microsoft, for example, are developing their Office suite of applications for OSX and they are not off the hook for any UI/UX issues for Mac Users. They must make the Apps work for that platform's users as they expect.

If they are marketing their platform and its services & Apps for other platforms, then at least they should give respect to those customer's choices.

I love this idea of website that facilitate business to access this niche expertise. I'd be interested to join such website in my areas of expertise and see it as a great opportunity to help in my free time (& earn some extra money too)
Currently reading this book. Although not a great fit for "history", but it is a great story kind of book with a few good points of advice here and there.

Ask HN: How do I value a potential opportunity to co-found a startup?

I have an opportunity to co-found a startup that has a principal founder and a team of 11 other sweat equity partners/founders. I would potentially bring engineering talent to develop the software (the entire product is a software platform) and at the moment they have about 50% of that software finished (some other members of the team of founders contributed that).the principal founder holds...

Re:Bizspark – what did you spend your credit on? on Monday May 30, 2016 @03:18AM (#11800039)
Not sure about the SSL cert. although I had previously used BizSpark credit to buy a domain name

Edit: grammer!

> If your position is unpopular with your friends, then it's because you think the law is more important than the entire society it's supposed to protect.

Sir/Ma'am: you get my gratitude for voicing this. People do forget why we have laws in the first place.

Ask HN: How do you find a good domain name these days?

I'm starting a consulting business .. trying to establish a business name and a web presence, I met a huge struggle during the past 2 weeks trying to come up with a domain name that is (remotely) relevant, available, and short. That, alone, is not the major issue really! but those who buy domain names and park only to trade them and turn a few bucks of profit as a business model!

Re:Show HN: MarkupKit – Declarative UI for iOS Applications on Wednesday October 14, 2015 @11:13PM (#10391092)
So this looks a lot like XAML[1] for WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation)[2] to me. and I'm actually quite surprised that this was not the case for iOS development from the beginning! (declaimer: I never touched native iOS development before as a 100% Microsoft technologies professional)

Re:Egypt's Startup Scene on Sunday October 11, 2015 @06:26PM (#10371359)
When I read the article, what immediately came to my mind (and was not mentioned by the way) is how this ecosystem is dealing with the corruption mess of such government(s)?

Finding funding, specially early stage seed fund, is very difficult in the first-world, not to mention it is almost impossible in a third-world country like Egypt (where I was born and lived most of my life), how is that being resolved?

Finally, I really wish to see the startup scene improving in my home country, this will develop a new generation of entrepreneurs that are willing to take the rotten bureaucracy for a ride and push to improve the governing policies.

Not everyone is affected at this stage, but a massive number of households are (mostly Vodafone subscribers). In a move to try to block all VoIP services later by the government as they claim is used by terrorists to plot their attacks. Another weak reason to sensor the internet and profit from the local government-owned telecom network.

Re:Ask HN: How to come out of this situation? on Thursday October 24, 2013 @01:15AM (#6603519)
I tend to think that Life is fair enough (to an extend) and the more effort and hard work you deposit, the better outcome you'd get. so, find a job in any organization you'd be ok working for, and work your a*s out and try to learn how others do it as well in the process.
Re:Should I Take My Friends' Money? on Monday March 25, 2013 @11:03PM (#5441135)
its easy once you figure out how your startup is going to be profitable and try to prove that to VC funds, and its a good idea to put some effort in articulating your business goals, and plans.
Re:Should I Take My Friends' Money? on Monday March 25, 2013 @07:14PM (#5440337)
I'd never put stress on my personal relationships for a business that have chances to fail as much as chances to succeed. my best bet here would be VC, its a professional way to handle investment, and you will be sharing your company with someone yes, but still own your idea/company mostly and have influence and you'll learn a lot about investment fund management and other perspectives of a startup you might have not though about.
