This is the first 2048 variant that I'm able to beat. yay me... .__.

Re:Keyboard Ghosting Explained on Friday March 07, 2014 @02:21AM (#7358925)
Makes sense. I barely play FPSs anymore, but I can imagine the scenarios that you describe, and after testing the keyboard on that site, it's clear that my actions would fail on such scenarios.

So, I take it that anti-ghosting measures are primarily meant for gaming keyboards.

Re:Keyboard Ghosting Explained on Friday March 07, 2014 @12:00AM (#7358586)
In which cases are such keyboards necessary?

I use a $3 one (which I bought to replace the one I used for over a decade) and I've never had such issues. I use this keyboard for coding and gaming, not just for common tasks which require low performance.

Re:Bitcoin rising star Autumn Radtke found dead in Singapore on Thursday March 06, 2014 @02:36AM (#7352400)
Seriously?

This is like the fourth time that someone posts this to HN in the past 24 hours. And just as those, this will get deleted.

Please stop.

Re:Bitcoin exchange boss Autumn Radtke Commits Suicide on Wednesday March 05, 2014 @10:00PM (#7351602)
This again?

Wasn't a similarly missleading article posted and removed from HN last night?

I've always wondered what kind of stuff goes through the minds of people who "like" such articles.

Yes. Pretty much this.

The Mexican government is fine with everyone hating them, as long as people limit themselves to clicking the "like" button on facebook, or ranting about something, but as soon as there's the risk of people actually doing something, they start moving.

Looks cute, but we already use Telegram.

The magic ball says:

- It will be abused by ads, and annoying "CLICK HERE AND SUBSCRIBE TO MY SHITTY BLOG!" messages.

- If it ever gains popularity, all major pop-up/ad-block/no-script applications will add a couple lines to remove it.

Re:Why Python is Powerful Enough for Google on Monday January 27, 2014 @09:48PM (#7134995)
I like how they use a huge picture of a snake for the article, even when Python isn't named after the animal, but Monty Python.

More on topic: Even when Python is one of my favorite languages, this article is plain horrible. Biased, and without any sort of point to compare it to.

Python is great for many tasks, but it's just retarded to pretend that it's the best tool to go for everything.

Re:cmd.fm on Wednesday December 04, 2013 @08:14PM (#6851934)
The concept is great, although I wasn't able to find a single genre playlist with tracks known to me (and I like to think that I know my music), which was kind of a turndown, since the point of a radio is to trust that once you pick a station, it will play things that you like, and in this case I found myself constantly alt-tabbing to type "next".

But that's an issue with the music and not with the page itself, which I enjoy.

Re:The World Famous staff on Chromebook: No deal on Tuesday November 26, 2013 @11:37PM (#6806424)
I wouldn't quote Jobs in scenarios like this, given that he pulled a pretty similar thing with the whole Flash thing: a misinformation campaing with the sole purpose of attacking the competition with fallacies and sketchy arguments.
Re:The World Famous staff on Chromebook: No deal on Tuesday November 26, 2013 @11:33PM (#6806411)
This is quite common in markets where there are only two or three competitors: instead of focusing on showing why your product is good, you simply bash the competition.

Pepsi vs Coca-Cola is a great example. Elections in countries with only two parties is another perfect example of this.

It's been happening for a while and it will continue, since it yields results:

The ones educated enough limit themselves to a "sigh. seriously?" and keep on using what they know it's best for them.

Then there's the target market: the ignorant masses, who will fall to these strategies, prove them useful and validate them as good marketing strategies.

The funny thing here is that there's a similiar thread every 24 hours and people always react like this is something new, and like the company in turn is super evil for doing it.

AdBlock + NoScript + Ghostery. kthxbai.

Cute, although not the best performance.

It'd be nice if the color gradually changed.

Re:They said this hack was impossible on Tuesday November 19, 2013 @04:06PM (#6764461)
I hate it when articles lack of technical details, or fail to disclose important information.

I find it interesting that their website announces that they're gonna be launching all of thei apps by January 2014, considering that their kickstarter hasn't ended, and that it's almost sure that Apple won't play along.

That said, I'm all up for a quicker way to share things with my friend's Android, so while the article is far from making me want to support this, I might give it a try once it's out.

Re: Python was the most popular programming language this year on Friday November 15, 2013 @11:39PM (#6743661)
Where did they get those numbers?

Even if I'm not a fan of JS, I bet that a lot more than 4% of this year's code was written in it.

Reminds me of that meme of the hippie who uploads her anti-capitalist propaganda from her new iPhone, using McDonald's Wi-Fi.

I don't get how this is worth of an NBC article. Perhaps since I'm used to a whole different socio-economic context; I live in Mexico, where the minimum wage is below $2,000 USD a year, so I don't find $5,000 a year to qualify as "poor" or to be anything impressive.

I know many cases of people who live with way less than that, including myself; I've never had a formal job, and have always lived from one or two days of freelance work each month, or from schoolarships. Sometimes I go for a full month with around $300 USD.

I agree with Gexla in that this is silly at best.

Re:The True Size of Africa - Misleading Maps on Friday August 16, 2013 @05:10PM (#6226754)
Rather than misleading maps, I'd say misleading title: The article asks if we've been using misleading maps for over 500 years and then presents an alternative which is just as misleading (another rectangular projection, just as Mercator).

Re:Here is a puzzle entitled "lowercase" on Tuesday August 13, 2013 @06:06PM (#6208576)
Any idea on 5a? It gives you a pair of coordinates which point to Papua New Guinea (according to Gmaps), yet the source makes a Greenwich reference.
