> You can make the exact same argument about “species”

There's a clear line in this case: A species is a group of any living beings that can produce fertile offspring.

Donkeys and Horses are separate species because they breed and produce Mules which cannot reproduce.

Show HN: Western Highway Alerts

https://westernhighwayalerts.com/

Hey HN:I got the idea for this product after fumbling with the Caltrans Highway Status page last March while Skiing up in the Sierras. It was pretty painful to get updates from the realtime highway status. Now I found some time to ship a solution (in Rust no less, if that matters to you).Hope you enjoy getting email alerts for highway closures in the lighest web app I could reasonably build.

We all just saw the prior art published for the public. That will preclude patenting this work. Further reduction to practice is required.

(I am not a lawyer).

Was this post by an Anthropic/OpenAI insider?

Kinda smells like viral marketing.

That sounds like a recipe for chaos and famine akin to Russia in the early-mid 90's

There are so many typos in here it makes it difficult to focus on the content. Is this a deliberate signal that the article was human written?

I learned a lot regardless and I'm adding this to my blogroll.

Safeway is the cost conscious option in Mountain View, compare it with the other options (Whole Foods, Nijiya). The comparison between Publix and Safeway is apt.

This is well understood by some schools of economics. It's called The Cantillion Effect.

New blocks are capped at 4096 bytes (plus some metadata), figure one every 10 minutes and there's your growth rate.

It's slower than the growth of storage/$$$

Monero uses a CPU-optimized consensus algorithm. Dogecoin is a better bet.

This was the original use case of bitcoin's Proof of Work system. Initally it was to impose a (nominal) fee on senders of email by mail clients.

If you didn't submit a proof of work of N or greater difficulty the email would be thrown out.

Are people entitled to severance in the USA?

I thought severance packages generally come with some considerations about indemnifying the company and such. Its a deal, not an entitlement.

Forcing an employee to resign is a "Constructive Dismissal" and there's plenty of case law around it.

It's not just a truck stop. Breezwood, PA is a meme at this point used to malign suburbs.

Safeway in SF does this (hiring private security, many off-duty cops) now.
I've never heard of anyone in the US having an employer cover their gas in a non-company owned vehicle.
It's rare to go out for a trip (foot, bike, bus, or car) and not see at least one.

After evening rush hour has concluded, they're a plurality of vehicles on the road.

Its a colloquialism for group of people involved in an enterprise or craft. Same usage as "The Paypal Mafia".
Re:Active North Korean campaign targeting security researchers on Thursday September 07, 2023 @05:00PM (#37425511)
North Korea was generally more aligned with the USSR than the PRC. Kim Il Sung and Mao were on the way up at the same time, and were both students of Lenin and Stalin.
