Beta-7

I've recently read The Cuckoo's Egg and as a person that has been born into technology it's really interesting how Cliff goes to explain concepts that these days are understood as common knowledge.

I sure hope it doesn't mean the government will shape the future of AI development how they see fit.

And the most important thing: the Ukraine - Russia war that took over the media's short attention span.

Can you go into your results with the reduced glasses therapy?

Which is not really impressive since BTC can be tracked. What is impressive, however, is you can just mail them cash with a piece of paper with your account number on it and they will add that money as credit on your account.

Thank you for the link. The original link is useless to me, all flair, but no information.
Re:ChatGPT and the Enshittening of Knowledge on Friday January 27, 2023 @12:07PM (#34548520)
Considering there are "GPT plagiarism" checkers, I don't think this will become an issue. I wonder at which point an extension will come out that will check a page's text if it was written by a human.

That day is closer than you may think. I sometimes only have my phone with me as i can pay using only it (something like Google/Apple pay, but through my bank's app) and can unlock my front door thanks to Home Assistant. Both of those (should, I don't have one) work with a smart watch.
Re:Ask HN: What is the most impactful thing you've ever built? on Saturday November 19, 2022 @08:35AM (#33669894)
What a coincidence. Just yesterday i've used getElementsBySelector for the first time while making a greasemonkey script.
The Chaos Communication Camp happens in the summer.
It's interesting how the ThinkPads used to be the tech person's™ laptop of choice because of their repairability and extendability, but nowadays most tech people (at least in the professional setting) are using Apple's MacBooks which are the opposite when it comes to repairability and extendability.
Re:Even Doom can now run Doom on Wednesday July 13, 2022 @06:35AM (#32080880)
About time we started using "how many layers of Doom can it run" as a benchmark unit.
They are also highly illegal.
There are TVs, here most are Chinese white label brands, that instead of using Android TV just have a microcontroller running Android on it. In fact I've installed Android on a Raspberry pi and the experience was literally the same. There's no smart features unless you select the input to Smart TV (which i assume is some internal HDMI interface renamed to Smart TV on the UI)
Not that i approve/excuse it, but it could also be why you must jump through so many hoops to get access to the account. There's a big black market on "OG" minecraft nicknames.

Have you tried KDEconnect? I use it to share/send links from Android to Linux and vice versa with the KDEconnect browser extension.

>What would be a better option than YAML?

It isn't a 1:1 alternative, but I've always thought that ESPhome would be much more accessible for the non-devs if they introduced a GUI similar to Home Assistant's automation GUI.

Some cheap(-ish), but good soldering iron suggestions: The TS-100 and its successor the TS-80 are stand alone soldering irons that only need DC power to function (the TS-80 is powered through USB-C and supports PD meaning you can power it when not at home with a power bank).

If portability isn't that important to you the (Ksger, althouh that's just one brand) T12 is a great desktop soldering station.

Re:Ask HN: How do I get my Google account back? on Sunday May 08, 2022 @07:58AM (#31303258)
How fast does Google respond with your data? I know Facebook's data export took me at least a week last time I did it (back when they first announced it). Most service's email confirmation codes/links have an expiration timer that is pretty short. If Google were really malicious they would just make you wait a week, or more, until they "gather all your data" making it not possible to migrate your accounts.

What should be possible, though, is to migrate your account without access to your email. For example make the user save a special TOTP secret that will be used only for dangerous actions and not just for logging in.

Re:USB Cheat Sheet on Thursday May 05, 2022 @06:03AM (#31271475)
USB 4.2 (later renamed to USB 3.2 gen 2 Mk. 1) comes with built in time traveling. They just keep adding features to the protocol and making it complicated.
Re:Ask HN: Teach me something new on Monday May 02, 2022 @12:29PM (#31237318)
I tend to float around the "Electronicity" and "Digital Hackerspace" discords. Other than those there's subreddits like r/AskElectronics, r/electronics, r/esp8266, r/esp32 etc. Sometimes people advertise their discords there and I like to pop in and see what they offer (how I found out about the previously mentioned discord servers)
Re:Ask HN: Teach me something new on Saturday April 30, 2022 @06:55AM (#31214989)
Out of all the hobbies I've had, electronics (mostly something to do with the ESP microcontrollers) is the most satisfying one once everything works as intended. While electronics knowledge is hard to learn on your own (in my case), there are tons of communities online that are more than willing to help.

This solution is perfect for the PR and avoiding future right to repair lawsuits.

Doing barely enough is what I assume they're going for.

Re:Esports stars have shorter careers than NFL players on Wednesday April 27, 2022 @11:04AM (#31180782)

Re:Firefox DNS-over-HTTPS on Friday April 08, 2022 @01:50PM (#30960295)
I am surprised Mozilla is pushing for DoH. I was expecting Google to lead the front since most of their revenue comes from ads and the DNS-level ad blockers are easily defeated by DoH.
That's what i meant by suggesting a bang. The bang was the equivalent of `!dictionary`, but in my native language. I guess not enough people here use DDG for it to be considered.
This is amazing. I've been using DDG mostly for the bangs and really wished there was a way to add custom bangs (I suggested them to DDG, but never got a response). This is just what i needed.
Twitch has had a few alternatives pop up from time to time (most famous would be Microsoft's Mixer) only for the site to be laughed at by Twitch's users and not given a chance. After a while the new site shuts down because it hasn't picked up momentum.

The problem is the viewers not giving the new sites a chance.... only for then complain about twitch having the streaming monopoly.
