I made a simple Pure Data patch (adc > delay > dac) that simulates this effect, and I can confirm that it works well.

I've been coding for about two years. At this point I can more or less hack together the game I want, but the code won't be very efficient. It occurred to me that I could open source the game, forcing me to confront my own limitations. Here's the part I have trouble with. Ideally I'd like to get compensation for my work, and if the game is in paid app form (Android), is open source a good idea...
Yes, but it looks like it's invite only right now?

I'd like to build up a little hype for a game I'm making by having a landing page with a video, and collecting emails before I launch. Are there any good services that create something like this? I would make the page myself, but I think my time is better spent improving the app. Thanks
Oh awesome, that worked beautifully. Thank you!
I tried that, but it works too slowly to continually press with two fingers next to the ball.
I meant is there a way to change the javascript to use a different button?
Is there any way to play this on a Macbook trackpad without connecting a USB mouse?
On another note, wouldn't it make sense for Nintendo to pull a Sony at this point and create a Nintendo store for Android? In a year or so a good amount of Android phones will have glasses free 3D.
This looks insanely cool, but it won't render for me. I'm running the newest version of Chrome on Snow Leopard which is supposed to support WebGL, other examples work fine, but I'm just getting a checkered background.
I like this idea, I'll be doing this. Also are prices like $1, or $2 better than $.99 and $1.99, or does it not matter?

Hi,I posted before on HN about this, but at the moment I'm working on a series of sound toys for Android. Each one is 'organic' in its design, and resembles more an organism that produces sound than an instrument.Initially I was planning on pricing them at $1 each, but maybe this is too steep for something that isn't a game, or has value that increases measurably over time. Should I package...

I suspect that my situation is sort of unusual so I'll try to explain it first as best as possible. I've decided that generative art/music is an interesting market, and so I originally was going to make synthesizer apps for Android. After much thought, I decided that a musician centric app, (not to mention a professionally useless one) excluded too many people. So my compromise was to make a...

I'm a sophomore right now and lately I just feel like school is completely irrelevant to anything I will do in the future, besides the credentials I will have I guess. With all the talk about Khan Academy and education recently I felt the need to post this. Also to clarify I don't want to claim that school isn't important for everyone, but in my case 95% of the material I can confidently say...
Both. For instance, on a lot of the YC and newer startups (I can't really cite them from memory) you see these really nice background patterns on landing pages, however, I have no idea how they are made. I have very little formal training as far as graphic design is concerned, so while I might be able to make a pretty logo following a tutorial I'm afraid the fundamental structure of the page will be bad.
Someone on this thread recommended a book called Design Elements, and it's great and just what I needed actually.
I just got this and it's phenomenal. This is exactly what I needed, thank you so much.

All the logos and designs I'm able to produce look like they're from 2007, are heavily gradiented, and lack subtlety. I would like to be able to make more modern logos and designs. Are there any good websites or books for learning how to design elegant graphics and landing pages? I'm working in Photoshop CS5 by the way.
I don't know, I find it (whatever it may be) to be refreshingly honest.
Sorry, I can't seem to find how to PM you in HN, however I would love to see the code.
My email is [email protected]
Thanks so much!
Does anybody know how to use this with Processing?

Is running a Linux distribution a viable alternative to the Windows/OSX? And if so, which distro is most suited to the web developer?
It seems unnecessary to me to have all your apps running simultaneously, but it does look nice.
I think you would like Bonobo. He released a really good album this year. And Flying Lotus as well.
I'm going to graduate next year, so maybe I'll take a year off and try to find something to do in NYC. Do you recommend college before working so I have an easier time finding relevant jobs? I imagine it would be difficult to get a job at a digital advertising agency without any credentials. Realistically I can't work during High School, so I guess I should just study up in the meantime.
Brian Eno is amazing, and I completely agree with him on all of those points. Maybe programming or math in general scares away artists, but I think there's a lot of untapped value in computers artistically speaking.
Arduino seems really interesting, I'll have to check that out, thanks a ton.
It seems backwards that an artist has to produce something physical for it to be valuable, but I have no problem doing that if it's necessary. If I were to make prints like you said, do you think slight differences in the same idea would be justification for a higher price? For instance, put some random properties into a visualization, and churn out 1000 copies of that, so each one is relatively unique. Do you think that would be viable?
That's ideally what I'd like to do. Thanks, I'll be working towards that.

I'm a sophomore in high school at the moment, and have been thinking about the future quite a bit. I decided to take up Processing, because I find visual feedback is helpful in being motivated to learn programming. It can produce beautiful images and interactions with very little code, and it's a lot of fun to work with. In your experience, do you think there is any market for creative coders?...
I don't understand why people expected so much from Gingerbread in the first place. So they expect Google to only release updates with massive feature additions? Personally I would rather have small incremental updates than nothing at all.
