Re:John Carmack on shorter work weeks (2016) on Saturday June 17, 2023 @04:02AM (#36368249)
I'm good for about 3-4 hours of focused knowledge work a day before I need a break or change in context. In the evenings when things are much quieter in my environment, I can squeeze in another 1-2 hours if its necessary.

I do agree with the "go to the gym" part of his spiel.

There is plenty of great tech today. You're either not working on it or not aware of it.

Re:CSS is no longer a core skill on Wednesday April 21, 2021 @09:18PM (#26897513)
Was it ever after bootstrap released? Most frontend work can easily be done offshore for half of what you pay a 'frontend developer' in the West.

Re:The Two Classes of Software Engineer on Friday March 05, 2021 @04:56PM (#26362647)
This is a rehashed generalization of degree vs non-degree engineers. If you write code long enough you'll work with both brilliant people who take pride in doing the uninteresting work and idiots who talked their way into big projects.
I have bills to pay and dependents to feed.
Re:Reading Candidates’ GitHub Profiles on Monday February 22, 2021 @08:44PM (#26232957)
Hiring is broken bro.
I highly agree with this. When I was in position where I had to interview candidates this is was the 2nd half of my technical interview. Read a piece of code and going through it with me like you're pairing with Jr. Dev. I still think algorithm problems serve the purpose of filtering out the bottom of the barrel.

We should give him the death penalty or life with no parole. We can't rehabilitate these types of monsters.
