Paying API prices for Deepseek 4.1 Flash feels like a much better deal at the moment.
I don't think so. There's a fundamental conflict of interest between the entity paying for the ad, the entity serving the ad, and the people seeing it. Their goal is to ultimately get ad viewers to spend the most amount of money, which may or may not be aligned with their interests. The advertiser has an incentive to convince them to buy something, whether that will benefit them or not.
I believe convincing customers to buy something is a much bigger sales driver than solving problems for them, unfortunately. And those two seem to go to hand in hand less and less as time passes.
If implemented as the title implies, data about minors would still be collected (though they'd get generic ads until 18), and now age verification becomes a hard requirement for anything that uses advertising.
Banning targeted advertising completely is a much better move and reduces the incentive to track people online.
Hoping the JS threads PR lands eventually: https://github.com/oven-sh/WebKit/tree/sosuke/threads/
What are the trade-offs compared to QuickJS? I understand from the README that Sablejs is expected to be faster. Can code being executed inside it be preempted/paused in any way?
Isn't that a bet that your government won't devalue your currency fast enough?
Can the IDE run on other OSes besides Windows? You seem to be using WinForms.I tried building it and running through Wine, but it didn't work.
Congrats on the project, making an IDE is no easy task. I believe there's room for a game engine to offer what GameMaker 8.1 used to (near instant runs, extremely fast iteration time for 2D games).
I can't relate, I hear people complaining about American spyware online all the time in tech circles like HN.
I think it's the opposite. For the projects that warrant it (usually games), it has never been easier to create a custom embeddable scripting language. It was always somewhat common to have custom languages, specially if the game is open to mods and/or allows users to create custom maps, but now that's easier than ever to do.
That's completely unreadable.
Not yet, but hopefully in the next 3 years.
> Do you look at someone who does nothing hard in his life with indifference?
I look at such people with admiration. Being in peace with not trying to improve their own productivity all the time is a beautiful virtue.
> Someone chooses to spend their life playing video games in their parent's basement. Do you think that's an equally admirable life than someone that spends his life doing hard things?
I'd go further and say it's more admirable than someone spending their life doing hard things. If they reached their goals with less effort, I'm happy for them - that means more time and energy to spend on the pursue of happiness.
> I'm curious about this.
Why did that catch your attention, if you don't mind me asking?
That seems to check out with the period people started getting more addicted to social media, pandemic side-effects and increased awareness of mental health issues
I believe the amount of people dealing with crippling anxiety these days is higher than that 20% figure, and we are still under-diagnosing it
> Hard work is a good in it of itself.
Hard disagree tbh but that's more of a personal values discussion
For a project like this, isn't it worth introducing a TS type for Ints? Since they are trying to leverage TypeScript anyway...
>I was pretty excited for a world where we could just ask for things and let the models cook and not read the code and get beautiful production software
I feel so disconnected reading those things. Reading and writing code is what brings me joy. I'd never feel "bummed" or "stuck" with it.
Kernel-level spyware, and Wine/Proton are the non-starters?
I don't think you and the person you replied to will reach an agreement.
Advertising as it exists today is tied to the Internet.
> you will see why the publishing business runs on ads.
And I maintain that tying business interests with advertising inevitably results in a conflict of interest between people producing goods and services, and people consuming them.
>it's only in the last 30 years - when ads got a bad rap
It's only natural that ads started being viewed in a more negative way as their effects were amplified by tech.
> due to tech bros who don't didn't learn humanities
Name calling doesn't add much to this discussion. My background is in humanities anyway.
That really depends on where you live in the world. South Americans, Palestinians and Iranians would probably disagree with you.
Highly debatable, IMO. They're already a net negative for society on their own. We'd probably have a healthier Internet if ads didn't create incentives for social media companies to get their users addicted to serve them more ads.
The plan I got is called "Moderato", which somehow isn't any of those 8... I'll try to read more about it.
According to their web interface, I'm also on 23% of my weekly usage. That feels crazy, as I do a lot more than that on the 20 USD Cursor plan, and never got even a warning.
I thought OpenCode was doing something wrong, but you had the same issue with Kimi Code.
If there's nothing major at stake (say, trying to convincing someone with cancer to seek treatment instead of ignoring it), it's not worth your (or their) time.
