As Bagehot is quoted saying in the article: "Above all things our royalty is to be reverenced, and if you begin to poke about it you cannot reverence it... Its mystery is its life. We must not let in daylight upon magic".

This makes it evident how this strategy exists to maintain the "magic" and fool the masses. It has no place in a progressive society where being duped with propaganda into believing falsehoods should not be something to look up to.

Everyone says that about their childhood too :)

Re:We're releasing the weights of Mistral Large 4 on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:48AM (#50290011)
Then who is an authority on the topic? Or are you trying to make a common usage argument, in which case you have to somehow demonstrate that's the way people understand it?
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @07:39PM (#50282491)
you don't interact with those in a small laptopt screen
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @02:43PM (#50278891)
I think the audience who touches the screen to work AND uses the screen to accurately reproduce colors is basically zero
People seem to be oblivious to the fact that the internet infrastructure has been government controlled since its inception. No cable laid under the sea between two nations can exist without the government approval and without the governments tapping into the link. IP addresses, MAC addresses, domain names, all managed by "super partes" international organizations swore to neutrality and fairness.

Unless you make your own physical network, it's trust all the way down

retroactively?

You did exactly what you are criticizing others for doing

The irony being that ChromeOS is actually Gentoo under the hood
Re:Apple: Switch to Safari (From Chrome) on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @07:18AM (#50085862)
>They do the same for iPhone vs Android

CTRL+F on the page shows that "Android" is only written once (!) and there is no logo or anything. It's as generic and indirect as it can be.

>And many years ago they had a huge Mac vs Windows campaign!

Exactly, many years ago, and then they stopped, which makes this unusual by definition

Re:The Slow Formation of Durable Software on Thursday October 08, 2026 @03:49PM (#50011100)
Why? I can serve it from my computer
Re:The Slow Formation of Durable Software on Thursday October 08, 2026 @02:41PM (#50010107)
WebDAV does not sync everything. With the amount of stuff faculty is syncing we would hit the storage limits with metadata alone
Re:The Slow Formation of Durable Software on Thursday October 08, 2026 @11:19AM (#50006883)
It is not supported natively (you can use a webdav server but it doesn't sync everything) and the third party options don't have the level of stability I'd need
Re:The Slow Formation of Durable Software on Thursday October 08, 2026 @11:03AM (#50006690)
What I dislike about Zotero is that it's a pain in the ass to self host. In my department I could spin up a local Zotero server for our PhD students and give them basically unlimited sync, but it's really finnicky

Re:The top secret URSALA, RAQUEL, and FARRAH satellites on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @06:59PM (#49915580)
The incredible and futuristic technologies the US managed to deploy decades before the competition reminds me of the story of how the NRO gifted NASA a couple of their old decommissioned satellites in 2012 and they turned out to be basically upgraded Hubble telescopes pointed at earth. The US from the 90s to the 2000s had multiple Hubble-level telescopes just for spying while NASA was fighting for scraps to study the entire cosmos.
Re:Opus 5.5 is good at explainer videos on Thursday September 24, 2026 @06:09PM (#49837387)
These explainer videos are garbage, whether done by humans or not. Just like those crappy Netflix "documentaries". Don't get me wrong, it's impressive, but it's just a more automated way of outputting low effort, low quality content
Yes, because there are plenty of situations where it's morally and legally acceptable to film someone without their consent
>Filming without permission is no different than harassing or bullying.

Since you used the most generic language possible, I guess me filming my nephew blowing on the cadles at his 8th birthday is harrassing and bullying and I should expect a punch in the face

Care to provide some proof they have? All I have read and seen points to them simply being Meta employees
