Re:Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power on Sunday November 01, 2026 @01:59PM (#50328535)
I mean forget Picard, the leadership we have in much of the world today is full of egotistical narcissistic, blowhard or mob style and courrpt people -it feels like no one cares that such people ascend to power either via populism or via corruption -forget shithole countries..it feels like we have become a shithole planet

Trump, Putin, Erdogan, Netanyahu, Erdogan, ... and so many others. Social media has only intensified this

What is wrong with Humanity?

After having to get a windows laptop for work - I'm still in awe of my old M2 Max.. Apple makes the best general laptops out there by a wide margin
Scott Aaronson of Shtel Optimzed and now at OpenAI has a great podcast episode discussing this -worth watching

Re:I Don't Understand Quantum Physics (2018) on Saturday October 24, 2026 @03:10PM (#50224133)
Many worlds as real ontology are just as wild as saying their is a God. Physicists are thus making claims that just as wild as the theologians .. I find this fascinating.

Just like the AI nerds and the AGI singularity or Musk saying we are in simulation...

ie so many crazy ideas.. for the rationalist, its like being in an insane asylum and trusting one mental patient or another..

I suppose at some level its just not rational why we exist. We must accept some wild, fundamental metaphysical assumption

Haha a “double agent” indeed- good idea

Correction: “Our Dear Leader’s”insane ramblings;)
Re:Codex is EATING my Mac's disk space on Monday October 19, 2026 @09:20PM (#50160190)
Well to be sure I posted it for the HN community to reflect on the operational readiness of production AI coded applications like Codex

Ie are they ready for primetime - if some app kills all the space on your HD just running it daily its a bad sign that any SaaS company would want to address

Re:The Brain Sandwich on Monday October 19, 2026 @09:17PM (#50160168)
That is not true for AI coding at all: ie the evidence is the massive difference between Claude code in opus 4.6 vs opus 5.5

That difference is enough to unlock AI coding for so many real life teams

Re:The Brain Sandwich on Sunday October 18, 2026 @05:33PM (#50145694)
No that is not a correct read -it might be based on this past few months or so state of the art, while instead that state of the art is moving forward every month- and at the rate these ai coding systems are improving and our harnesses for managing them- bug handling and brownfield codebases are becoming increasingly accessible to AI coding

Ie you are making the mistake of assuming the tech is static when it most assuredly is not

Re:The Brain Sandwich on Sunday October 18, 2026 @05:29PM (#50145679)
Well to play the opposite perspective:

If we assume that AI coding is just beginning- we can assume that humans will create systems to help Manage the increasingly complex interactions that machines will code - ie we are still early like when we first introduced the industrial revolution to the peasants (which led to decades of chaos- for sure)

But Just like a 787 is not flown by hand either - doesn't mean anyone is qualified to autopilot it

Complex engineering systems will require sme humans to help manage the underlying complex interactions in way that is comprehensible to human intelligence

No one except for a smaller group of specialists for example these days does much understanding of assembly or compilers.. but we build complex SaaS apps all the time without that knowledge

Re:Codex is EATING my Mac's disk space on Sunday October 18, 2026 @12:06PM (#50142295)
Eh, that was said about Javascript, electron, node, etc

The world adapted, that is to say if something is popular- they will keep it going through just enough fixes to keep it going

Re:Codex is EATING my Mac's disk space on Sunday October 18, 2026 @05:21AM (#50139401)
Well looks like my post hit the frontpage of HN, so maybe openai will fix the bug :)

sounds good

I created the following feature request:

If OpenAI's super-intelligence can solve Navier-Stokes why can't they fix this stupid bug that ate up 330GB of my Mac's disk space? come one please triage your github issues?

See this: https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/25921#issuecomment-62...

Very interesting- will check it out

how does it work from a cost management perspective

Ie one subscription to each project - can we have spools of different claude subscriptions working together-

Trying to contain my dev costs and prevent claude orchestrated agent to subagent api overruns

Re:Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @07:36PM (#50097135)
It’s not ghoulish but it also perpuates a never ending cycle unfortunately- we as in each culture, man, woman are all wronged in so many ways and most have legitimate grievances and are skilled in restarting and kindling those grievances with the next batch of children..ironically religion and nationalism kindles that even further while also providing a base identity to create fellowship between its adherents

But is the only way out further death and destruction?

Blessed be the peacemakers, as they say

So here's the question:

in America we have had 20 years of "Tech Disruption"., making the world a better place and relentless technical innovation, combined with the 'corporization' of America

Has our day to day lives improved?

Do we work less, live healthier, have less stress?

Seems like this (the younger generation) is far worse off then pre-internet connected, smartphone generation

This is hilarious except not a single of the AI generated voices have Indian, russian or south american accents in any of the SRE, Software or API meetings so immediately suspect :) -also everybody is extrovert?

Listening to so many white-coded american voices talk about APIs has never happened in any American company I have ever worked for (Except maybe the Fed Gov)
