Re:Namecheap just seized and disabled all my domains on Monday October 19, 2026 @04:51AM (#50149992)
Are you happy with the final decision on Cloudflare?
Re:Namecheap just seized and disabled all my domains on Monday October 19, 2026 @04:50AM (#50149986)
That's a pretty big stretch. I'm a very competent backend developer and product owner, but a bang-average front developer. It's okay to lean on AI for your weaknesses.
Re:Java 27 Released on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @02:47AM (#49722908)
Right, but doesn't take away from the fact that Java maintains backwards compatibility and so all these legacy decisions will generally forever exist.
Re:Java 27 Released on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @12:26PM (#49714952)
but still has all the historic bad decisions of itself
Re:Ask HN: Who is using MCP in production? on Friday September 04, 2026 @10:58AM (#49565617)
Incredibly useful for our SaaS. We are a niche CRM and it's very useful for our non-technical users to be able to connect our platform's data to Claude/Copilot which they then combine with other MCPs.

Advantages over our normal API: - Much easier to provide LLM-specific explanations and descriptions to all of the tools and parameters - None of our clients know what a CLI is - We re-use our MCP for our own platform's agent which gives it a neatly defined list - It handles the full OAuth flow in the application

I'll admit though it is VERY similar to a REST API, and I could see them merging at some point.

Re:Our decision on Cursor following its acquisition by SpaceX on Saturday August 29, 2026 @04:08AM (#49487939)
Out of interest when did you last use the desktop app? I am a huge daily user of it and apart from very minimal bugs, it works perfectly for me. Wasn't always the case, so they've definitely made improvements
Re:Incident with Github.com on Monday August 17, 2026 @11:49AM (#49332975)
Are you sure? We have enterprise and I couldn't even access our repo briefly.
Re:How to ask for help from people who don't know you on Sunday July 05, 2026 @03:55AM (#48792166)
Note: This may not work on students
You don't need that stuff for setting up a company, I've only come across those if we are going through due diligence with a (B2B) client.
Re:Midjourney Medical on Thursday June 18, 2026 @09:55AM (#48585419)
In a sea of AI products, the brand is still powerful though. Would I have clicked this if not for the Midjourney name? Probably not
Re:SpaceX Is Buying Cursor on Wednesday June 17, 2026 @08:11AM (#48569276)
As in the changes its made? You can do that on Claude Code but by having it do it on a worktree and just checking out that worktree. Then you can see the change file(s) in your preferred IDE

My mum doesn't know how to use a cli.
Re:How Shamir's Secret Sharing Works on Wednesday May 27, 2026 @03:38AM (#48290955)
I'm afraid it's not available as it wasn't published. To be honest there wasn't much more than what I posted there, it was quite a practical thesis and really more of a market analysis and practical implementation of a potential consumer product.

Currently doing a different startup, but certainly an idea for a future one.

Re:How Shamir's Secret Sharing Works on Tuesday May 26, 2026 @05:57AM (#48277458)
Unfortunately no, as most uni students my code was utterly terrible and the app itself was more of a PoC. This was 10 years ago though and it's been on my mind since then, so i'll surely pick it up some point, perhaps after my current start up.
Re:How Shamir's Secret Sharing Works on Tuesday May 26, 2026 @05:01AM (#48277051)
My masters thesis was on this! I created an app where you can store your data across all the common data storage providers (dropbox, google drive, onedrive, etc.) and used the secret sharing to aid with the encryption. The benefit was that:

- They could no longer read your data

- Additional redundancy (as you only need 2 to be available)

- Compared to other secure storage apps which rely on a master password, which if you forget, you are screwed, you could still use all the usual account recovery methods.

Likely the person didn't know they were part of YC (I didn't).
because there isn't one and people still paid for it.

My clients demand one, so there is one.

Re:The Git Commands I Run Before Reading Any Code on Friday April 10, 2026 @03:35AM (#47714809)
Why can code even go in with breaking tests? They shouldn't even have the power to do that.
Re:Prism on Wednesday January 28, 2026 @07:25AM (#46794426)
Do a lot of people know that Prism is the name of the program? I certainly didn't and consider myself fairly switched on in general
I sure hope they're not pretending to be police considering they kill about ~1,200 people/year in the US (compared to about two in the UK).
Re:The Overcomplexity of the Shadcn Radio Button on Tuesday January 20, 2026 @04:33AM (#46689826)
I'm assuming they're asking for large in terms of complexity, not in terms of popularity.
I agree they shouldn't become outcasts, but it feels disingenuous to say that the reason for wanting to work for palantir is anything but "they wanted A LOT of money".
If they're good enough to be hired to palantir as an engineer, I very much doubt at any point they were desperate.
For me personally, it's certainly been an iterative process. I like to think of focus as any other habit that I want to form, so from that:

- Schedule time for it

- Understand that I will have slip ups and that's okay

- Make it hard to do the bad things (in this case, I have domain blockers to stop me redditing, I move my phone to another room etc.)

- Make it enjoyable. For me it's finding a particular energetic DJ set and just bopping along while I do the focused work.

And so on.

Gotcha. And then how does that translate into the audit process? Because Vanta/Drata have auditors they work with regularly, there's a bit of an incentive on both sides to use these templates because then it speeds up that part tremendously. I can't imagine the auditors being happy about really diving into hyper bespoke documents for every audit.

Your product seems great for actually doing the spirit of these frameworks (reducing risk, improving controls and processes etc.). However from what I've seen the reality of these audits is it's a box ticking exercise for everyone involved, and so improving the efficiency there tends to be the goal. How do you position yourself in that?

Also hope this doesn't come off too critical, it's just something I've been through recently and love seeing new things! I'd definitely add a vanta/drata comparison to your website though as that is inevitable.

What's the USP over something like Vanta/Drata (aside the cost being much lower currently)?
If you have no real traffic, what complex things are you doing that even require such tools?
I'm astonished how many people have a) constant production access on their machine and b) allow a non-deterministic process access to it
Re:Meta Ray-Ban Display on Thursday September 18, 2025 @05:26AM (#45287498)
Their problem was that they didn't look like normal sunglasses, so people were immediately intrigued/suspicious of them. Although these have the little light if you're recording, the amount of instagram videos where creators are using these and the random people they're directly talking to don't notice, should tell you all.

The rise of smart accessories (especially watches) should tell you that a lot of people don't want to disconnect
