Inserting the page breaks is for the authors, its a button in the editor when creating a post. The download epub / create printable pdf are on the posts for readers.
Re:Websites Should Be Printable on Monday October 26, 2026 @08:41AM (#50242650)
https://tuhat.net allows you to set a page size for your post and input hidden page breaks for when people download the epub version or print your posts, it doesn't affect the web version.

There is also a zine booklet mode which works out page imposition to print out a zine (eg. double sided, folded in half)

Click the printer icon on any tuhat post.

Not if you move countries. I moved from the UK to Canada, updated my payment method and all UK purchased content was gone from my itunes account

And yes, there is some elaborate workaround to create a brand new account and share the original with the new but fundamentally I could no longer access what I purchased because I moved. And no, I didn't get a refund for the years of purchased content.

The challenge isn't terribly clever, just some basic crypto maths, same as Anubis. There are a very low number of AI bots that pass it based on my logs, like 0.01% low and I suspect they are interactive agents that bother to run JS as crawlers typically don't. Assuming these are actually run on an end users computers I don't think any amount of cpu/memory weight would be a real blocker. One thing I've seen that is interesting'ish is bots failing as they answer the challenge from a different IP than it was requested from, and the source IP is validated as part of the response so they fail.
I rolled my own version of Anubis for reasons*, and > 80% of all traffic is bots that fail the challenge, even when white listing legit crawlers.

* I wanted an elixir version so I could run it alongside my existing apps instead of having it sit as a proxy in front of them. This way my existing apps can validate if the caller is already whitelisted and if not redirect to the challenger https://sphinx.8by3.com which sends you back to a site if you pass eg. https://tuhat.net

I was pretty sure it was built by and also run by an LLM (eg. openclaw), the same user setup a tuhat account a few weeks ago

https://tuhat.net/@askamonk/

And they responded to my weak prompt injection by claiming they were human, so I'd say code 100% LLM, intention human.

Re:What the New AI Layoff Data Proves on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @03:31AM (#49709025)
Crappy feedback loops are ruining a lot of the internet.

I'm not a serious youtuber, don't have an account, don't follow anyone.

But I randomly came across this guy https://youtube.com/@barryseconomics and its pretty refreshing.

Why do all vibe coded sites use a dark theme with blue and purple glowing styling. Is this the colour scheme of the future, the bots have decided?

Or is it something boring like its the default colours of some npm pkg.

Its not even a thinly veiled attack on China, https://darioamodei.com/post/we-must-pace-the-frontier explicitly calls out China as the boogey man.

I'm by no means a fan of all of China's methods – its a country riddled with issues and contradictions, but can any country claim otherwise, can the US?

I've often wondered how executives and politicians can be so brazenly dishonest and still hold a straight face. One explanation is they really believe the lies they tell, but I can't believe that in this case.

Re:Code for the People – The human story of the open web on Monday September 14, 2026 @08:38AM (#49695834)
That feels more like a paste bin than a writing platform? How do you know whats published without having the link already?

The hard part of stand alone publishing eg. not being on a big closed network is discovery, this seems to make that even harder than normal.

Re:Why Bending Spoons eliminated all job titles on Monday September 14, 2026 @07:24AM (#49695045)
I love being out of touch with the tech scene. I couldn't fathom what the link between paranormal powers and job titles could possibly be. One assumes they still have L7E whatever for the org chart and reporting software. It feels like a lazy publicity stunt.

Also don't people think these kinds of company names will backfire? Spoon bending is a con, is everything that the company does also a con?

Re:Code for the People – The human story of the open web on Monday September 14, 2026 @07:03AM (#49694889)
Since this is an ad for wordpress, I don't mind plugging another opensource writing platform – https://tuhat.net/about

And no, it's not worth billions, and doesn't have a budget for its own film.

Re:Object storage is all you need on Thursday September 10, 2026 @09:50AM (#49643700)
TIL, thanks for the context. What I was getting at still stands, LLM's seem to love a lot of words-with-hyphens which might be grammatically correct, but I've never seen a human actually type.
I always thought the choice was between, do you want the company that is honest about being dishonest, or the one that is dishonest about it.
Re:What is the correct way to become a DevOps eng? on Thursday September 10, 2026 @09:27AM (#49643378)
Start as a regular engineer – be good at it, people will give you more responsibility, be good at it – soon you will be a product engineer, and be an all singing, all dancing, one girl band.
Re:I think I hate the internet on Thursday September 10, 2026 @08:44AM (#49642853)
Its the not internet, its bad incentives (profit) making once ok platforms shitty. But there are alternatives

Whatsapp - https://signal.org / http://element.io

Instagram - https://fotoapp.co/ / https://glass.photo

Twitter - https://joinmastodon.org/

Substack - https://tuhat.net

Facebook - maybe replace it with a mix of the others

Re:Object storage is all you need on Thursday September 10, 2026 @08:05AM (#49642367)
real people don't write "compare-and-swap" ... or "lo-and-behold" for that matter.
Re:Flushing the toilet may release germ plume at adult face height on Thursday September 10, 2026 @06:22AM (#49641275)
I thought this was common knowledge? In my bio class ~20 years ago, people swabbed parts of the bathroom to see how far from the toilet you still found e. coli etc.

And while this suggests it wasn't consistent, have always closed the lid / left the room since.

Re:iPhone Duo on Thursday September 10, 2026 @02:39AM (#49639331)
Whenever the 12 mini came out, that was the last new phone I bought, and it still works great, although I prefer to use Graphene than iOS.
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @02:39PM (#49631666)
I'm so happy I stopped caring about new phones about five years ago, since then I've spent about $200 on phones – for a used pixel 8 that I installed GrapheneOS on.

Consumerism is mad.

Re:100s of flights cancelled at UK airports due to ATC issue on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @03:12PM (#49615291)
I briefly thought you meant the issue was NATS - https://docs.nats.io/learn/core-nats
today I broke my personal age record – it was a tough ride, but with grit and determination, I think maybe, just maybe, I can do it again tomorrow.

Oh, and I also have no AI features.

indeed, typically by using their huge cash piles to build a moat around them, so no small new player has a dream of competing.

This is why I refuse to give any money to AWS/GCP/Azure or anyone who runs on them.

When someone says cloudflare is too good / cheap to be true... maybe think about it.

They have shareholders, who wouldn't allow them to provide value for free, its just not obvious to you how they are extracting that value. Maybe its by capturing a huge % of unencrypted https traffic because if you let them do your certs it means they can read all your real traffic.

Re:My Feed, My Way on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @04:00AM (#49607049)
Ha, fair. The home page is a global feed of all users, limited to one post per day per user.

One of many potential solutions to an alternative to todays social media – like substack, but without the shitty sides of social media.

Re:My Feed, My Way on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @03:58AM (#49607030)
Indeed,

Thats part of the premise, we don't need to invent new technologies when email/rss are already self curated / federated.

The missing piece is discovery.

Which is why in addition to allowing you to aggregate internal/external feeds into one place, each instance also shares each external feed its users have subscribed too, and each user can share who they read (like a blog roll).

Re:My Feed, My Way on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @03:08AM (#49606587)
Or just use https://tuhat.net,

>> 1K organic users in the last three months, ,with no marketing budget, and no VC funding.

- Chronological feed of local posts + external RSS feeds in one place

- Email newsletters / RSS

- Journaling feature

- Book log / reviews

- No Algorithms

- No like button

Opensource if you want to spin up your own instance.

tuhat: Home for all your reading

- What books you are reading- Who you are reading on tuhat- Who you are reading on the rest of the neteg. https://tuhat.net/@sbr/readingBecause we should read from a diversity of sources, not just what one company promotes or allows.tuhat pulls external rss feeds to build a single chronological feed of posts from tuhat and outside under your /reading page.
