I find it telling you blame India's lack of modernization on Pakistan. A reflection of the times.

Maybe dismantle the caste system first. You need a civil rights movement.

This is India's biggest hurdle but it seems too ingrained in the society. All peoples should have the same opportunity, but the structure of power in India likes the way things are.

Next work on how you treat women.

As a German do you feel a similar sentiment about your own country?

Your response doesn't seem to react to the article, but rather a response about your displeasure of immigration.

The whole concept of Paul atreides seemed entirely orientalist, in Edward Said's coinage of the term.

I'm curious if you know what a Nazi salute looks like? Make a comparison by looking it up, he does the salute twice.

Of course you can argue in bad faith because it costs you nothing to be wrong but does that imply you are promoting this behavior? Seems like the obvious implication

The media is outraged because a duck quacks like a duck

They will have an impact on rent prices driving the people who can't afford to buy to new strain.

Is this /s ? I can't tell. This reeks of some trickle down nonsense speak. What these pe firms want is rent, control over a limited market, with inflated prices for a consumer base who's purchasing power has turned to mush. Prices will inflate because of limited supply and the consumer will the one holding the bag

What is it that you are endorsing? More funding for Israel?

The support or wishy washyness still amounts to funding the military action that is killing thousands and thousands of civilians.

What more do you want? Even More funding and public forced support of this clear massacre?

So you're saying out of the trillions upon trillions of stars that the chances are no life can think but us?

I think the odds are that at least one of them does.

Truly amazing what a gift to humanity. Inspiring to see such a wonderful zoom on a deep filed like image. Bravo to the ESA.
Why ? They were allowed to practice in Spain's and even retained positions of influence.

Also what's the India connection?

Except Islam dictates not taking interest from anyone, even though institutions try some not so clever work a rounds that end up being interest rebranded.

I'm sure the value they created trickles down?
Maybe you missed this article where a many of the replies say they are fine with facial scanning at airports. Digital rights removal is the slow boiling frog.

"Federal civil rights watchdog sounds alarm over Feds use of facial recognition"

The mentality of people in tech has drastically shifted into "o well... "

Interesting that you added Pakistan to the list, have they ever been accused of espionage in the US? Or trying to hack anyone for sensitive information? Doesn't seem likely.

Have any reference to this?

I'm only seeing them in reference to India which would seem par for the course on both sides.

Has anyone read Vonnegut's "Player Piano?"

I feel as if this book highlights this topic really well

For anyone in hiring, for new grads how important are internships ?

Seems like its practically required at this point

You found a small example to counter the many many examples perpetuated by BJP Hindu nationalists. Which accomplishes nothing but covering for the atrocities committed in the name of ethnic nationalism. How long and how hard was it to find that? Must have taken some effort, your mental gymnastics are Olympic level.
Meh, the hardest part I'd the mixing and mastering and getting it heard. They don't seem to do that themselves
He tried to make sense of numbers, as a point that it serves the US geopolitical goals at the time to have a distraction from their own atrocities.

"We do not pretend to know where the truth lies amidst these sharply conflicting assessments; rather, we again want to emphasize some crucial points. What filters through to the American public is a seriously distorted version of the evidence available, emphasizing alleged Khmer Rouge atrocities and downplaying or ignoring the crucial U.S. role, direct and indirect, in the torment that Cambodia has suffered."

Calling it downplaying genocide is a nice strawman. In any developing situation the media wants to jump yo a conclusion, that's his point overall.

He wasn't denying or downplaying just stating, if its happening how can we know to what degree when we have unreliable sources?

His debate opponents seem to be pretty nasty with him and come out the gate swinging. Why blame him for doing the same?
Re:A Journey Through Spain’s Islamic History on Friday September 01, 2023 @08:18AM (#37349812)
If you dislike the colonization so much why doesn't Spain tear down Al Hambra and any other structures from that time?

Like the comment below about "La leyanda negra", there seems to be a trouble with coming to terms with history. Much less the history after the reconquest. Who was it that lead the Inquisition? Conversion by the sword? look up Mozarabic Rite. There seems to be some great need to play the victim in a shortsighted history.

These regions you refer to where often over taxed and exploited, that was the reason that they were easily conquered in the first place. From Wiki:

"Scholars have emphasized that animosity against the Visigothic rule in some regions of the Visigothic Kingdom, including to a greater extent the deep disagreements and resentment involving the local Jewish communities and the ruling authorities, weakened the kingdom and played a pivotal role in the ultimate success of the Umayyad Conquest of Iberia.[32]"

"At this time, Umayyad troops reached Pamplona, and the Basque town submitted after a compromise was brokered with Arab commanders to respect the town and its inhabitants, a practice that was common in many towns of the Iberian Peninsula.[30] The Umayyad troops met little resistance."

Respect for the local population seems like something European colonization never did when they spread their misery around the world. So calling it by the same name is weird because it wasn't the same exploitation as inflicted on the world. What great monuments were left by the Europeans for their conquered? Catholicism? Neo imperialism?

Its always the same narrative talking about European colonization of the world, "yes, this is what armies/nations did back then, past is past"

When talking about Spain or Constantinople, "look at the awful colonizers!"

Look at the and compare all you want, you will need your alternate histories to satiate your needs to rewrite it to your own standards.

Its amazing that the brother of the current PM Nawaz Sharif was indicted on literally that charge in the Panama Papers.

Now they are accusing the other side of it and fabricating a case because Imran Khan.

That's an interesting theory. I don't know if this helps you draw a distinction but you may find this this paper by the NIH interesting, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4153434/

They state that generally females are diagnosed adhd-pi higher, but there may be other factors. However, Females are generally diagnosed less with autism:

(From wikipedia) "Several theories exist to explain the sex-based discrepancy, such as a genetic protective effect,[7][8][9] the extreme male brain theory[10][11] and phenotypic differences in the presentation between sexes,[9][12][13][14] which may all be intertwined. Researchers have also debated whether a diagnostic gender bias has played a role in females being underdiagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.[15] Researchers have also speculated a gender bias in parental reporting due to the expectations and socialization of gender roles in society.[16]"

Thought I would indulge your theory, and give more food for thought.

Re:A fair warning to the AI/ML music generation community on Thursday November 10, 2022 @08:48AM (#33546315)
From my viewpoint there is a common denominator to sound that makes it music, but music tastes don't last forever. What AI can't produce is novelty of expression. And also novelty in performance, like those small timing and volume variances created when someone is performing (jamming) in a group. But suppose AI has enough of a data set to even mimic that, people will seek out a new sound at some point. I could even imagine some weird sci fi techno dystopia where music is no longer recorded because AI can mimic it almost instantly so people flock to in person performances.

My point is that expressions of emotions have a certain bar of excellence. What make clair de lune so classic? I don't think you can quantify that. Nor can you fully recreate Jimi Hendrix's playing style to the ear of a guitarist who's been playing for years. Maybe you can fool a lot of people but it will always feel like a cheap imitation and music tastes will have moved on by then.

Off topic Side note: This is one of those rare internet posts that hits the bullseye for me. Everything from the discussion of the half-life game engine to making music in the early 2000s, to the thoughts on the music industry and LAN parties.

OP you and I are bredren. This is what the internet used to be like, finding out that your own experience is shared. All your thoughts and opinions mirror a lot of my own. I gave up the chase of being a guitar for hire a couple years ago. All the best man.
