Ask YC: How to handle fast user intake

Although not applicable to me (one day!)...If a pet project suddenly becomes popular and expands beyond it's indended users (bandwidth, resources) how would you handle it?You need to move to a dedicated server, rewrite a portion, and somehow find the time and money (its a side project - you have a day job).Also if it's a novel concept but not groundbreaking, how do you keep your user base when...

I'm interested in what day jobs hackers on here have? I'd like to see what the mix of people working IT related jobs with side projects vs non IT related jobs with side projects. IT being the usual admin, developer and designer type positions. And its always interesting in general to see what other people do for a living.

sleep fm would be better if they made a decent video (browser area only), removed the stylesheet (the interface is horrible) and lost the sleep fm 'loves you' type impression. Its a utility.

It could be useful if they streamlined it and marketed it without the corn :P

I don't run my own installation (used the hosted one for about a year) but have seen friends upgrades go not so smoothly. In keeping with various updates I'd say it'd take a bit of time.

Had a look and I'm very impressed!

I'm putting together a personal blog and thought it'd be a good idea to do the posts by email - was a bit unsure on the anti spoofing measures though. I'm sure you have it sorted!

I've recommended it to a friend already- Well done!
