The problem is the hit-or-miss part. That's the actual constraint to solve.
Pick the two or three forums where your ideal customers actively ask questions about the problem your product solves, not where founders hang out.
Spend 20 minutes a day answering those questions thoroughly before mentioning what you build.
This builds trust and relevance. The conversion quality difference you see between paid ads and forums tells you where to focus.
I've also found that forums (in my case private FB groups) are the best source of leads, so I built an app (GTM Intel) to check them frequently and give me a daily list of leads to respond to.
P.S This is very meta / ouroboros but your post is actually one of the ones it found for me today!

I made a job board to help myself and others find their next job as a marketing manager, across product, growth, SEO, etc. Design shamelessly stolen from HN.

It acts as a Marketing Strategist. You can ask questions like "why is my SEO traffic down this week" and it will give you a clear answer based on your site's performance data, as well as a checklist to improve.
In Safari on macOS when visiting the Facebook newsfeed, the system mic active icon appears in the menu bar and says that Safari is using it.I haven't granted permission. Grok 3 did a pretty good job at summarising the reporting on this: https://x.com/i/grok/share/dRQgAZRK9Oc9aiGxs4tzeSRIA
What’s doubly frustrating is that these companies are never honest about this - I can’t ask “so how long are you going to delay this net30 invoice for as part of your deliberate strategy?” and get an honest answer.

Including translated index of government forms[0]
I moved to Spain a few years ago and love it, except for the paperwork. I’m slowly learning Spanish (currently 1112 day streak on Duo) but found it hard to get the right info.
So I’m using gpt4 and perplexity to do things like translate local news, government forms, and the official government update feed.
