Microsoft broke localhost not too long ago too.

I don't really get why you put 'Others?'

What kind of question is 'Others?' is doesn't even make any sense. It just pisses me off.

It requires an internet connection to adjust the toggle.
Oh well. If you cannot function within constraints of society, then maybe you shouldn't be apart of society.
I don't see how one can come to this conclusion.

You can easily use prosumer routers/firewalls and other parental devices to block content you don't want. Millions of solutions exists and its trivial.

If you don't have the options in your router or OS level settings, you can 100% change the DNS server to Cloudflare's Family DNS, or a number of other family DNS solutions, many of which are offered for free.

You don't have to give your kid everything or nothing. You just have refused to look at the options. This is HN, we should be making tech for our families, investigating solutions!

Millions of people use or have used 4chan.

There is not a million school shooters.

Meanwhile every state in the US is implementing age verification "technology".

There is something bigger at play, and its not US or UK...

I don't think this holds up, at least not with the "kids toys" example.

Aliexpress only sends the toys to the Fedx or whatever shipping partners UK uses.

The only thing worse than being locked up in jail in your country for saying stuff online is being locked up in jail in another country.

I do not want to visit the UK. I do not want to visit the US after they require me to hand over social media account passwords.

Re:AI coding is gambling on Thursday March 19, 2026 @12:04AM (#47434809)
The problem is that every day someone "creates" a "new" ffmpeg GUI or similar. There is already a million "ffmpeg GUIs", many of which existed before the advent of AI.

We don't need a thousand copies of a tool which is practially useless, espically when I could of just prompted an LLM for a command for ffmpeg to convert to randomfile.emk3ukz file or whatever. The spam was getting unreal.

There is not a single ISP in Australia that doesn't provide proper IPv6 support, with the vast majority granting /48 addresses.

It is purely and excuse to not use it in 2026.

You haven't factored in Inflation.
Re:Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Review: The Privacy Screen on Wednesday March 18, 2026 @07:05PM (#47432507)
I wouldn't call it a "Premium Hardware gold mine", apart from the screens, the battery, cameras, CPU/GPU, etc are all on par or surpassed by Apple and Google.

How do you think humans survived for millions of years without a Samsung account?

You don't think Cloudflare is a honeypot for the US?

At the very least they can request just about anything from Cloudflare and they will comply, although is almost guaranteed that their is Fedramps for Cloudflare data.

Edward Snowden leaks proved even the "tough guys" like Apple were happily sending away data without warrants, automatically to NSA/FBI/CIA, etc. You seriously don't think Cloudflare doesn't?

Not really, it ruins 5 peoples game along the way.

You are a beneficiary if you are with a cheater. Whilst it may feel undeserving, most aren't discontent with winning.

The "cheating" problem is overblown.

If all you do is read Reddit threads all day, you'd think the game is unplayable. Although if you actually play the game, the problem is far less extreme than it is made out to be.

Source: 10,000 hours in CSGO/CS2.

Better yet, the launch option -allow_third_party_software effectively by default, puts you into a pool of lower trust factor players.

Trust Factor, despite not being an Anti-Cheat, is arguably one of the best defenses against cheaters (and ultimately toxic players).

It might be, although trust factor has a major outcome of match quality.

I have over 10,000 hours in the game, majority played on official servers with quite a low % of matches impacted by cheaters. The match quality does deteriorate with Premier rating. I noticed a decent jump in cheaters after about 25k rating, although the number is not as much as people like to make it out to be.

Microsoft will shoehorn their Anti-Cheat into the next Xbox project and force it down the throats of Windows 11/Windows 12 users. This will cause game developers to gobble this technology up.

This is the only defense Microsoft has against the growing Linux Gaming crowd. Microsoft forgot how to make good, consumer friendly software.

Re:The unlikely story of Teardown Multiplayer on Tuesday March 17, 2026 @10:06PM (#47420821)
We should note, this is entirely a Nvidia software imposed limitation, as the hardware can easily handle more, the purpose is to upsell to non-gaming cards.

With that being said, its trivial to bypass with tools like: https://github.com/keylase/nvidia-patch

Regardless, this does throw a spanner in the works for a video based game streaming solution for P2P multiplayer.

Even if they do make people safer "on average" these systems are not tested by a lot of the auto-safety organizations. In fact, some of these organizations simply bump up the "safety rating" automatically depending on how many "safety" features are included, without actually testing the effectiveness of the feature.

This is important, because forward collusion detection is not a binary thing. Each auto maker has their own set of parameters, sensors and implementations to achieve a similar goal, but each act independently.

I would also prefer if people were more engaged with driving too. I don't think we should encourage people to "rely" on these systems to keep them out of trouble as these systems can and do act unpredictably and may harm other road users as a result of a programming decision since the car in front acted unexpectedly.

I think the whole automation of everything in a car is a bit silly. Transmissions are whatever for me, although the full lane assist, cruise control, adaptive cruise control, even automatic wipers and headlights makes people feel so much more disconnected from the car, which I think leads to unsafe habits or worse, unable to handle the car in situations where the automatic systems fail or become unreliable (e.g poor visibility, wet roads, unmapped roads, off-road, obstructions on the road, road works, etc).

Re:Illinois Introducing Operating System Account Age Bill on Tuesday March 17, 2026 @08:27PM (#47420233)
You effectively do need an account to start a car in 2026.

You cannot buy a new car in 2026 which doesn't spy on you. This is the simple reason I will never buy an EV. EV's do not respect me.

Even if you don't "need" an account to start a car, all modern cars have tracking systems which record both the driver and passenger, send their face scan and camera recording to the manufacturer and 900 other adverting partners, some of which will be government organizations fronting as Ad companies. These companies keep logs of everything you do in your vechiel, not just when you start it, but where you started it, who started it, who drove it, what inputs do you do (throttle position, brake position, speed, engine RPM, aircon vent direction, window position, vibration measurements) not to mention audio recording from both inside and outside the car, compromising the secuirty and privacy of everyone around you, everyone that hops in your car, even children.

If you asked the average parent, they'd probably be on board with adding cameras to their closets and adding tracking and cameras to bikes, allyways and sidewalks.
