I think you confused my statement of caring what other people think about my suit, to wearing a suit. I wear suits. I just don't care what the fashion around them is.

Truly blows my mind people buy $5 lotto tickets.
Re:Can Style Be Timeless? on Monday March 31, 2025 @02:00AM (#43531600)
Truly blows my mind anyone cares about this stuff, at all.

Must be a frustrating, expensive, kinda sad way to live life.

Re:Moving from relational data to events on Saturday December 16, 2023 @10:17AM (#38664812)
> Once you distinguish all events you’re fine with and want to migrate your relational data, don’t try to cheat; don’t put your events as small and granular. Relational data is flattened; if you try to retrofit what happened from the final state, you will likely fail or not be precise at best.

.. what?

If I kill you and take your land/stuff/body, did you give it or did I take it?
This is the only part of AI that actually terrifies me.

I’ve run into people on this very site who use LLMs as a doctor, asking it medical questions and following its advice.

The same LLMs that hallucinate court cases when asked about law.

The same LLMs that can’t perform basic arithmetic in a reliable fashion.

The same LLMs that can’t process internally consistent logic.

People are following the medical “advice” that comes out of these things. It will lead to deaths, no questions asked.

Why? I have no problem with this.

"Have you considered the increased opportunities for synergies in the office? We should punt on this until next quarter's all hands when we can utilize our increased office presence to actualize our OKRs."

If you are in a positive office space, you need to understand that you are incredibly lucky and part of a tiny minority.
Re:Ask HN: Does "trust" eliminate the need for code reviews? on Monday November 13, 2023 @09:43AM (#38250632)
No.

I trust myself. I still want someone to review my work. If nothing else than to essentially catch typos.

You can’t proofread your own output.

My fanny pack is already full of grunge cassette tapes.
Re: on Sunday November 12, 2023 @10:29AM (#38240979)
I don’t want to carry around a pouch of coins like a medieval traveler.
Re: on Sunday November 12, 2023 @10:26AM (#38240936)
I was lamenting yesterday how coins should all just go away. Round up or down.
Re: on Sunday November 12, 2023 @10:25AM (#38240924)
Your lack of self control doesn’t make them evil.

I never carry a larger balance than I can pay off in full with cash any time.

I’ll take my “form of evil”, have fun with your overdraft fees.

Ask HN: Digital photo frame with FTP support?

I am researching digital photo frames to provide to the grandparents with photos of their grand kids.I want to be able to update the photos remotely.I do not want to be reliant on some cloud service that could go away tomorrow.I have found some frames that provide an FTP server to which you can upload, but you need to be on the same wifi network. Hiding a rPi underneath to provide remote access...

Don’t feed the wildlife.

It is often illegal.

Pricing is missing.
Re:Cities Skylines 2 runs with 20fps on an Nvidia RTX4090 on Thursday October 26, 2023 @02:33PM (#38029847)
Oh, they noticed. They complained. They said "we need to fix this".

The project manager said "Not high priority for launch", then closed the ticket.

Re:Wealth Shown to a Pixel Scale on Friday October 20, 2023 @10:23AM (#37956485)
Yea, we’re crazy dumb idiots for thinking it’s not great that so many people are literally starving and homeless and one dude has more wealth than Smaug.
Re:American Employees Reinvent the Sick Day on Friday October 20, 2023 @09:36AM (#37955787)
This is not something to be proud of. We all need rest. You absolutely went into work when you shouldn’t have.

My favorite thing about Yamaha is that it’s unclear from the product name whether this is a motorcycle or an instrument.

Seems like a good reason.

I wonder if their newly announced API will give you direct access to your most compromising moments.
This will also never do anything if you pass it 0.
What a well thought out and convincing argument! Thanks for engaging in good faith. /s
I have been using an Apple Watch to track my health as an otherwise healthy person for a while now.

No one has tried to sell me any health services.

I feel far more confident in the security of their Health ecosystem than I do any individual app developer.

This is FUD.

Your takeaway from this should not be Denver has a low COL. It does not.
> However, researchers did report that all participants showed declines in overall mental health.

Sounds like it's accurate.

Living in a capitalist hellscape will do that to you.
