Re:Firefox usage is down despite Mozilla's top exec pay going up on Wednesday September 23, 2020 @04:35AM (#24564522)
piggybacking on this, the performance of Firefox on a Mac with a 4k external screen is abysmal. any action at all takes an extra second or two to perform. not to mention that if i start watching a youtube video it makes the fans go crazy.

i changed back to chrome because of this and it's so much smoother.

i have exactly the same issue. so many websites nowadays choose to have dark themes which are essentially black backgrounds with white text and it is physically painful to read. if i'm invested enough in the article, i always try to change the user styles a bit to make it more bearable.

Re:Show HN: Verify JSON using minimal schema on Thursday April 16, 2020 @04:43AM (#22887386)
can you tell me a bit more about this? i wanted something like this for a small api i have but ended up using marshmallow to validate jsons against defined schemas which i think is a bit overkill.
Re:Deploys at Slack on Thursday April 09, 2020 @04:53AM (#22820848)
capistrano is perfect for that. we use it for all our deployment needs and it has been wonderful!
i find the title a bit misleaing. "your street" only if it is in Madrid, Brussels or Paris.
what exactly makes this random person qualified to say this and call other people 'doomers'?

Re:JavaScript Is Bad on Tuesday August 27, 2019 @07:32AM (#20808428)
i don't see nested ifs? from what i can tell, it checks whether the error happened in the request or in the response from the server.

can anyone tell me why he says that the axios snippet is wrong?
Re:Ask HN: What do you do with your Raspberry Pi? on Tuesday June 25, 2019 @03:54AM (#20271994)

Re:Hyper 3.0.0 on Tuesday May 07, 2019 @10:26AM (#19849679)
out of curiosity, could you give an example of where Alacritty would be faster than iTerm in a day-to-day environment?
Re:Hyper 3.0.0 on Tuesday May 07, 2019 @10:06AM (#19849437)
why not use iTerm if on OS X?
Re:Show HN: Simple but Powerful IDE for Databases on Thursday April 18, 2019 @09:15AM (#19690732)
how is this better than DataGrip?
Re:Show HN: Beautiful Python List Prompts Package on Tuesday February 26, 2019 @03:29AM (#19252806)
if you want to use python together with dialog to build cli menus, i recommend using http://pythondialog.sourceforge.net/doc/. i've been using it for a project at work and it's very nice!
try to be autosufficient. if you have a problem, try to fix it yourself. try googling, reading source codes if you have to. it's very annoying when people come to me with questions that could have been resolved by doing 5 minutes of research online.
Re:Enabling the F4 key in macOS on Friday November 24, 2017 @07:21AM (#15770689)
you can always set them to be regular function keys and use karabiner to override those media keys. that's the setup I have and it's pretty good.
