Re:Lichess on Scala3 – Help Needed on Monday December 05, 2022 @11:04AM (#33867355)
It appears the problem existed before the lila3 was deployed on 11/22. If you notice the GC graph. The number of GC cycles/minute kept increasing gradually starting on 11/10 and almost doubling on 11/21. The 11/22 deployment of lila3 reset the graph and since you have been restarting everyday since, we can't see the growth of more than a day. My wild hunch is a code push on 11/10 causing a memory leak, worth checking in my opinion.

Re:Ask HN: I'm disabled and out of money. Now what? on Monday July 04, 2022 @01:36PM (#31979741)
If you don't have anything good to contribute at least don't be a dick to others. Life can turn on a dime and any of us could be in a similar situation.
You may be able to control the place of "landing" but you can't claim to control the airspace above it.
Re:A database for 2022 on Friday April 01, 2022 @08:48PM (#30884860)
Totally off topic. I am not an UI/UX designer but why can't the page scale to the size of the screen? Sure I could ctrl/cmd++ but is it hard to detect the screen size? Genuine question, not trying to be condescending.

My manager during the recent 1:1 said I have been a valuable employee. Should I be worried?
You would have added some expletives too if you had worked as a support engineer.
You need to keep it fueled for it to maintain whatever orbit it gets pushed into. Orbital decay and everything.
Re:The Problem with C (2020) on Tuesday February 01, 2022 @04:10AM (#30160239)
C is generally better because it doesn't treat you with kid gloves, if you don't know what you are doing you will get fucked in the ass. That said, any competent engineer would know what tool to use to solve a given problem. You don't use a sledge hammer to fix a watch.

Yes, I agree that readability could have been better.

Do these cat-cores need cryogenic cooling?
You can create your own CA & Certificates from "Keychain Access". Quite useful.
Exactly, I am pretty sure there is an equivalent in all the major languages except C/C++.

They should have gone serverless.
Why is it difficult to keep the political leanings, opinions, activism away from the workplace and act like professionals? If you disagree with something your colleagues or the company you work for, just quit and find another job.

In my humble opinion, there is a place for expressing/speaking up about the things you care about, but workplace is not one of it. You have no locus standi.

Re:Icecream: Never use print() to debug again in Python on Tuesday March 30, 2021 @08:42AM (#26633900)
I do it in a different branch & discard it afterwards. Having said that, I never meant print() should be used in place of a proper debugger. All I am saying is they both can complement each other and each one has its place & value. As for me, I find it quicker to add a few print statements and get a rough idea before firing up a debugger(if required). May be others are more proficient in using debuggers. But print() works for me.
Re:Icecream: Never use print() to debug again in Python on Tuesday March 30, 2021 @04:17AM (#26632240)
Absolutely, I don't understand why using print() or its equivalent in other languages is looked down upon. It's quick way to narrow down the "area of search" before bringing in the big guns.

Re:FreeBSD 13.0 – Full Desktop Experience on Wednesday March 17, 2021 @11:39AM (#26492711)
Perhaps your question is too generic? It all boils down to "right tool for the job". If you need support for latest hardware (as a Desktop OS) you will have better luck with Linux than the BSDs. On the other hand if you want a free, rock solid UNIX OS to run a network/file server, look no further. Also, ZFS & Jails (before Docker was cool).
