Wordpress is extraordinarily clunky. There's a lot of configuration you have to concern yourself with (i.e. plugins, SEO, etc). If you want a custom domain with wordpress there's even more of a hassle.

With Jekyll + GH Pages you have full control of your site with as little complexity as necessary.
