Could the growth of hobbyist makers creating jewelry for sale at craft fairs, Etsy, and small lifestyle shops be the main reason for decreasing traditional jewelry industry sales?

These types of jewelry are what I see all my friends wearing. They're pretty, interesting and of artistic merit, but they're not often not made of terribly valuable materials, and so they're not very expensive.
