What do they mean by nVidia embedding developers on teams? Like covertly getting nVidia employees hired by game teams to sabotage non-nVidia?

Not covert at all. Nvidia engineers come to your office and work on your code for you. They know more secret sauce and contacts inside their company, so they can help you get your performance up on their chips.
