Ask moot: please respond
I, and with me a few thousand, are 4chan-users. Our administrator, Christopher "moot" Poole, refuses to respond to matters about 4chan on his own website. With little to no prior notice he implements features nobody of his users asked for and refuses to participate in meta disccusions about the quality of his decissions.
He throws unasked features at us, breaks third-party apps and alienates users. Then, completely ignores criticism and user input; he kills off all meta initiatives.
Hopefully HN can help. We know moot actively browses HN and participates in discussions here. When mentioned he responds, yet on his own website he barely stands up.
Hopefully the issues below can be addressed and in the ideal situation, resolved.
------
- URL scheme changed with no apparent reason. Why? It leaks meta-data and is therefore a smudge on the anonimity 4chan entails
- Is the new URL scheme better for tracking and/or targeted keyword advertising?
- Why is the 4chan-JS repository on Github not maintained? Instead of third-party applications, developers can contribute to the official 4chan-JS
- Why was "Submit" renamed to "Post"? This button was perfectly fine for years on end - and all of a sudden it changes. Why?
- All the fuss about cookie-less domains yet MORE THAN DOUBLE the raw HTML size with the new responsive design - why?
- If bandwidth is of such concern, supply a fat Javascript-client with AngularJS or something - the APIs are already there
- With a "shoe-string budget", how come 4chan runs for years on end with no problem? Maybe some financial transparancy to silence all the jew-insults?
- Why isn't 4chan open source? Community input can vastly improve it
- Without metioned reason, page 0 is "renamed" to page 1 and maximum page count is increased by one. Other than semantics; why?!
- Why are all meta inputs removed? I.e. /q/
>I, and with me a few thousand, are 4chan-users.
A few thousands? You're alone. I thought you'd notice that in your firepad.
>refuses to respond to matters about 4chan on his own website.
Lurk more
>With little to no prior notice he implements features nobody of his userbase asked for
Someone does things on his own website and this is an outrage? You're not forced to browse and nothing prevents you from creating a new imageboard where you'd do everything your users are asking for.
>and refuses to participate in meta disccusions about the quality of his decissions.
Maybe he would if the comments against these changes weren't so inane.
So vote with your feet. It's not as though 4chan is the only, or the best, or even an admirable, social medium. There are many alternatives. If enough people leave, this person will either respond as his users hope for, or he will become a historical artifact.
You speak as though you have no choice about using 4chan. I suspect an addictive personality.
Move.
