There is a very nice book that dedicates a chapter to analyze Final Cut Pro X, which Apple removed features used by power users. The book is "Why we Fail. Learning from Experience Design Failures" http://rosenfeldmedia.com/books/why-we-fail/ It is a very good read.

History repeats itself.

Look at Final Cut Pro X again. All the features people complained about being missing are back in now.
