Jesus or Buddha, both had to go through immense pain before they were recognized as prophets.

Is it necessary even for a common man that they go through pain before they reach close to God?

its that people remember god only when they are in trouble. When it comes to Christian missionaries, they catch people in sorrow and try to preach them their religion as they are soft targets.
