Yeah, this is mostly bullshit.
The people who hide away are the same as the people who want you to sign an NDA before they talk about their startup because it's just too revolutionary and cranks who invent new crypto algorithms in their basement.
DS design is extremely complex and requires the coordinated effort of a lot of really smart people to get right. Anyone building these systems in secret just has no idea how terrible they are at it.
