The first thing that comes into mind is old Roman military. Infantry and long marches - on a regular basis they could out-march cavalry.

The same was true 100-150 years ago in the US. The US Army Infantry routinely marched 35-40 miles per day, seven days per week for weeks on end. The cavalry simply could not maintain that pace; it killed the horses.

Not just cavalry. The Mujahedin do a credible job of out-marching mechanized forces too.
