That is a misrepresentation. They are just going to recommend JavaScript if people ask which to use and focus on supporting that. Not forcing people to drop other languages.

My question is, what about people that like JavaScript derivatives like CoffeeScript or LiveScript?

I guess they just compile them to JS as they would for the web. On github I have seen a few gnome3 mods written in coffeescript.
